The custodial and maintenance employees are supervised by the Director of Buildings & Grounds and will not only be working with maintenance, cleaning, and care, but will be working with people, especially children. Qualifications: Education/Experiences
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must have a valid Illinois Operator's License or Valid Illinois I.D
- Two years prior job-related experience in school or institutional building maintenance or related trade.
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Complete district required drug screen
- Asbestos and BBP Training.
Skills, Knowledge and /or Abilities Required:
- Familiar with cleaning agents; supplies and equipment
- Perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.
- Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies, safe work practices
- Reading; ability to understand verbal instructions.
- Abilities to stand for prolonged periods, performs a variety of tasks
- Follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision,
- Adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate with students, staff and parents.
- Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Arranges: Furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events (i.e., regular school, community education, special events set up and break down tables, chairs, audio visual equipment as directed).
- Cleans: School facilities, Administrative Service Center, Transportation Hub (i.e., classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, grounds, windows, restrooms, sinks, carpets, floors, garbage cans, wastebaskets, gym, cafeteria, and other areas as directed by principal or head custodian) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Using a variety of custodial equipment and products cleans and maintains an assigned section of a school building or district site.
- Delivers: Variety of items (e.g., supplies, mail, packages, furniture) for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties
- Informs: Informs principal, supervisor, other site personnel and students for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and / or proper maintenance of facilities
- Requests equipment and supplies through the principal or supervisor for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain
- Rotate between various buildings as needed to ensure adequate coverage during staff absences facilities.
- Responsible for day-to-day cleaning of The Administrative Service Center and the Transportation Hub.
- Snow removal and grass cutting, which are essential for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facilities.
Teamwork:
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Demonstrates punctuality and dependability on the job
- Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption of district operation
Secures:
- Facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and
- ensuring safety at work site (i.e., unlock & lock doors, secure gates, check windows, turn lights off/on; operate heating plant and equipment
- Repairs furniture, equipment, and minor building damage for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
- Removes ice and snow on school property as required.
- Monitors building temperatures and reports any deviations or failures.
Maintains:
- Keep building and premises including sidewalks, driveways, ramps, stairs and play areas neat and cleaned at all time
- Maintains an attractive, sanitary, and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.
- Maintains a regular schedule of all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing
- Change burned out lamps, fluorescent tubes, and ballasts.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs
- Reports other needed repairs to the Principal/Supervisor.
- Maintains grounds and operates equipment as required.
- Visually checks fire/security alarms, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting systems for damage or operational problems. Reports needed repairs to Principal/Supervisor.
- Maintains tools, equipment and the custodial room in a clean and safe manner
- Ensures that the area is left in a safe, secure condition
