Salary: $11.66 - $15.88 Hourly Location : Fairhope, AL Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: FHP00142 Department: Recreation Opening Date: 12/06/2024 Closing Date: 12/19/2024 11:59 PM Central FLSA: Non-Exempt Description Under the supervision of the Streets & Facilities Supervisor, the employee performs custodial duties to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned City buildings and facilities. The employee operates various pieces of cleaning equipment. The employee maintains a supply inventory and prepares materials a list of materials as needed. The employee dilutes and mixes cleaning agents according to directions. Work is usually performed in accordance with well-defined procedures. This job is considered security-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment background check. Essential FunctionsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Custodial Duties. The employee performs custodial duties ensuring the cleanliness of assigned City buildings and facilities.
  • Ensures the assigned facilities are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms.
  • Restocks paper items and cleaning supplies.
  • Sweeps, strips, mops, waxes, and buffs floors.
  • Washes and disinfects water fountains.
  • Empties and washes trash cans; replaces liners in trash cans.
  • Vacuums carpets; shampoos periodically.
  • Dusts and cleans windows.
  • Sweeps sidewalks and porches.
  • Gathers trash around the building.
  • Dusts furniture and cleans blinds and counters.
  • Replenishes and restocks bathroom consumables.
  • Cleans kitchen/break facilities.
  • Rearranges furniture as needed.
  • Cleans multi-purpose room.
  • Reports any discovered maintenance problems to supervisor.
  • Opens and closes buildings as required.
  • Inventories cleaning supplies and notes needed items; orders supplies.
  • Prepares and mixes cleaning solutions according to labeled concentrate instructions.
  • Maintains activity log and supply inventory.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Maintenance. The employee performs basic maintenance to ensure the well-kept appearance and operation of City buildings.
  • Changes light bulbs.
  • Waters plants around City buildings.
  • Performs simple plumbing procedures (i.e., clear plugged toilet) as required.
  • Touches up paint on walls.
  • NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
  • Decorates buildings during holiday seasons.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of practical work experience in custodial and facility maintenance; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job.
  • Possess a current and valid driver's license; must be insurable.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours.
  • Ability to travel to City buildings.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

  • Ability to push carts, carry trashcans, and move furniture for cleaning.
  • Ability to climb small ladders less than 10 feet tall.
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to drive.
  • Physical Demands The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity. Work Environment The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
