Summary of Position: Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the physical facilities (buildings and grounds). Responsible for snow shoveling during work shift. Completes assigned work orders independently and within a team atmosphere. Responsible for special assignments and projects at the direction of the Facility Operations Manager and Physical Plant Director. Occasional weekend and holidays as needed for emergency cleaning. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department. 3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success 4. Cleaning and Maintenance - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Sweep and mop/scrub floors and vacuum carpets including treating stains and extraction of carpets
  • Dust vertical and horizontal surfaces
  • Clean and Sanitize restrooms, drinking fountains, etc. using established safety practices and procedures
  • Clean elevators, stairwells, entrances, lobbies, and other public spaces
  • General cleaning and maintenance including cleaning glass, spot cleaning, etc. within classrooms, labs, offices, and similar rooms
  • Perform emergency and project-related cleaning using established safety practices and procedures
5. Snow Plowing - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Physically shovel walkways
  • Apply ice melter
6. Work Order Completion - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Grounds upkeep (litter and debris pickup - no mowing or landscaping work)
  • Furniture and equipment moves, pickups and deliveries
  • Computer and operating systems knowledge along with understanding operating instructions for cleaning equipment
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year experience in a custodial related position
  • Technical college education would be beneficial
Required Certification/Licenses:
  • Valid Driver's License
Required Testing:
  • Physical (ability to pick up and carry 50 lbs, standing for prolonged periods of time)
  • Hearing baseline test and annual audiogram testing
