Position Description

Under direct supervision, the Customer Assistance Clerk performs clerical duties for the Harris County Clerk's Office at the Personal Records Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assists customers by issuing records, filing documents, and researching office data.

* Issuing Marriage Licenses, Assumed Names, Real Property Filings, Birth and Death Records according to the Texas Statue.

* Receives and processes annex documents, verifies all documents are accurate, and mails out completed marriage licenses.

* Performs cashiering duties, accounts for all monies collected, and prints reports.

* Makes certified and plain copies of instruments records in the Harris County Clerk's Office.

* Answers phones and directs customers to the correct office.

* Operates all equipment in office, computer, printed, copy machine, fax machine, scanner, etc.

* Completes data entry and/or scanning on various documents filed.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

All applicants must register and take the HRRM Clerical Skills Test and score a minimum of 80% with a typing speed of 30 W.P.M. and 80% accuracy.

Education and Experience:

* High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.

* Two (2) years of clerical and/or customer service experience in an office setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Must pass FBI and Local Background Check.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.

* Excellent use of English language, as well as written and spelling skills.

* Work independently with limited supervision and exemplify professional manner in all circumstances.

* Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality of documents.

* Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with the public in a professional manner.

* Ability to handle stressful situations.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

* Regular Full-time

* Monday - Friday | 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

* Overtime as warranted

Location:

* This position does not include paid parking; a subsidized Harris County Metro card is available after employees receive their first paycheck.

Salary:

* $16.50 Hourly

* Based on 26 pay periods

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
