Position Summary:

Daily customer contact in person, by phone and e-mail. Requires a strong customer service, flexibility, problem solving and analytical thinking orientation. Educates customers on applicable laws, policies, services and resources for all tax types administered by the department. Provides customers with information regarding status of records, tax return or other transactions. Provides guidance on options to correct deficiencies, problems or errors. Electronically file 90% of returns. Assists in completion of original and amended business, income/food sales tax, and homestead returns for current and past periods. Good knowledge of current Kansas tax statutes, regulations and department policies and procedures. Keep abreast of new and amended tax legislation enacted by legislature. Registers businesses and issues registration certificates for all appropriate tax types associated to business activity. Provides start-up assistance and education regarding filing requirements, tax exemptions, due dates and penalty and interest. Performs registration account management on business accounts. Be knowledgeable of Kansas Business Center (KBC) and Streamlined Sales Tax (SST) online business registration systems and perform account adjustments as needed. Work from ASTRA Tax Processing (ATP) worklists to correct problem tax account periods and profiles. Ensure customers' needs are met in a professional, efficient manner.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience in interviewing, investigating or providing technical assistance to clients, customers, or the public, and two years of experience or education in auditing or accounting support work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Experience: Knowledge of ATP, Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) Online services and filing, Tax knowledge (i.e. Income and Business Taxes), Policy Library, ACM and the ability to review Tax balances for issues that may not be the norm.

Preferred Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, proofreading, editing, and attention to detail.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems
