Job Description:
What You'll Do:The Bureau of Vital Statistics operates a statewide system for the registration of births, deaths, and other vital events that happen within the state of Ohio. We are currently seeking experienced customer service specialists to provide information, communicate procedures and transition licensed funeral directors and physicians to the new vital record reporting system.These positions entail the following tasks:* Calls and emails stakeholders to inform them of changes to Ohio's vital record system* Provides technical assistance to electronic data users including local health departments, coroners, funeral homes and hospitals to enter and complete enrollment information in the electronic/birth/death registration system* Researches and responds to customer inquiries for requested information* Prepares and sends information to customers such as training documents, access requests, applictions and clarifying information letters* Protects the privacy of confidential VS records and handles emergency requests from the director's office, governor's office and others (e.g., legeal requests, expedite delivery)* Reviews submitted paper death worksheets and contacts the listed physician to enroll them through the electronic pathwayThis is an in-office position reporting to 4200 Surface Road, Columbus, Ohio, working Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.This position is Unclassified per ORC 124.11 (A)(29).ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION.Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 28, Step 1 of the OCSEA union Pay Range Schedule ($21.97 per hour).Position Qualifications:9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in office practices & procedures; 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in public relations or customer service that included techniques for handling difficult people; 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in typing, keyboarding, data entry or word processing; 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer.* Or equivalent of Minimum Qualifications for Employment noted above.Job Skills: Customer ServiceTechnical: Communication, Administrative Support/ServicesProfessional: Building Consensus, Customer Focus
