Purpose of this Job:

Provide guidance and supervision for front-end staff at Hometown Market in the absence of the Front-End Manager. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings about business transactions recorded by other workers. Prepare bank deposits and change orders as dictated by business needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for providing backup assistance to the Front-End Manager with daily activities, as needed or requested.
  • Responsible for opening/closing the cash office in the absence of the Front-End Manager.
  • Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding appropriately to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Monitor sales activity to ensure excellent customer service and quality goods.
  • Responsible for receiving, recording, and banking for cash, checks, and vouchers and will make bank deposits at established financial institution(s).
  • Operate computers and utilize accounting software to record, store, and analyze data.
  • Verify figures, postings, and documents for correctness, mathematical accuracy, and proper coding.
  • Debit, credit, and total accounts on a computer utilizing accounting software.
  • Maintain lottery sales and winning records, sending appropriate paperwork to accounting.
  • Understand the returns process, notifying a manager as required by company policy.
  • Process cashier change orders, verifying accurate amounts are transferred.
  • Verify “cash pulls” from cash registers when they are over the drawer limit and enter them into the system.
  • Run register or supervise the self-checkouts as dictated by business needs.
  • Compliance with all federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Equipment used in the Job:

    Computer, database software, accounting software, calculator, email, scheduling software, multi-line phone system, fax/copy machine, overhead pager system.

    Educational Requirements:

    Minimum of a high school education or General Equivalency Diploma is required.

    RAMP certification required or within six months of employment, if required for store.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages.

    Ability to identify discrepancies or potential problems and provide solutions.

    Analytical skills, as well as financial aptitude.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and comprehend instructions, labels, and pricing structures

    Ability to write with clarity and create legible, readable, and concise documentation, correspondence, and orders.

    Ability to talk to others (internal customers/coworkers and external customers) to convey information effectively and professionally.

    Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and maintain vendor relationships.

    Physical and Mental Requirements:

    Concentration, attentiveness, independent judgment and discretion, managing multiple tasks, reading and comprehend instructions and work orders. Must be able to see, hear, bend, stoop and reach, and stand for long periods of time, use hands, and lift up to 25 pounds manually.

    Work Environment:

    Interacting with computers, extended viewing of computer screens, using the telephone and accounting software.

    Standing for entire shift, minus breaks and meal periods. Will be exposed to changes in weather when working near the front of the store. Has the potential to be exposed to various degrees in temperature while working with employees in various areas of the market, including dock, stockroom, coolers, freezers, front area of the store, deli, and meat rooms.

    Other Considerations:

    Must be able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
