DescriptionCity of Oxford - Job DescriptionElectric Department - Customer Service Representative Purpose of PositionThe Customer Service Representative is responsible for collecting payments from customers, balancing the cash drawer daily, taking requests for utility services and answering the telephones and assisting customers.This is an extremely visible position. The ultimate responsibility of every employee is to serve the customers in a friendly, courteous manner and to maintain a positive relationship with fellow workers.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervision Received The immediate supervisor for this position is the Business Manager.Supervision Exercised NoneESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReceive and process payments from customers over counter, in night depository, and through the mail and ensure proper accounts receive credit. Payments include all electric, water, sewer, sanitation bills, security deposits, various fees for services such as water and sewer taps, temporary electric service, collection charges, etc.Receive and process all requests for service connections and disconnections from customer for electric, water, sewer and sanitation. Responsible for making sure all necessary information is on form and accurately typing this information into computer and printing the service order for serviceman to complete. Upon completion, matches service order to appropriate application and reviews for accuracy.Answer phones and assist customers in a friendly, courteous manner and take accurate messages in a businesslike manner.Communicate with other customer service personnel and serviceman of payments and orders to aid in working delinquent list and requests for connection and disconnection.Other duties as assigned.Job ContextDepartment. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Business Manager. The person in this position is supervised on a daily basis and has no supervisory authority. The Customer Service Representative works regular hours year-round with occasional overtime and night work. There is no shift work for this position. The person in this position is not on call. 100% of the work for this position is indoors in an office environment. The position has accountability for monetary issues related to the work for which this position is responsible.The Customer Service Representative is a full-time, permanent position in the ElectricThere is no exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials. The person in this position must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. The stress level associated with this position is moderately high and may be higher during certain period of the year. Physical work involved with this position includes, sitting and standing for extended periods of time.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilitiessit for extended Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.Knowledge of customer accounts and billing procedures.Skill in handling payments, fees and deposits for utility services.to Skill in the use of a computer, cash register, ten (10) key calculator, photocopier, two-way radio.Communicate effectively with residents, officials, other City employees, etc. both orally and written.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
