Overview:This position assists in the management of accounts receivable by counseling patients and/or family members on insurance options and payment options. Incumbent contacts patients that have outstanding balances due to no insurance or insurance deductibles, and counsels these patients in regard to making arrangements for payment in full or payment arrangements. With reimbursement contingent upon the proper billing and collection, it is the responsibility of the incumbent to have knowledge of all aspects of the accounts receivables process. This position reviews all self-pay balances in the over 120 day aging bracket to determine if the criteria have been met to transfer to collection agency. Prepares and reviews accounts to determine statement, payment and collection history. Works collection report from largest balances down. Coordinates with collection agency to verify balance and account information. Maintains accurate account of payments and necessary insurance transfers.
Qualifications:Education:
1) High School Graduate. 2) Special consideration will be given applicants possessing the following: a) Formal schooling or working knowledge of medical terminology. b) Working knowledge and proficiency in electronic processing in the following areas: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, Medical Assistance, commercial, and auto. c) Formal schooling or working knowledge of collection procedures for Act 6, Workers' Compensation, VA, and Champus.
Experience CSS CURRENT:
1) Minimum of two year's previous experience with public contact required. 2) Minimum of two years telephone collection work within a hospital or related field providing thorough knowledge of collection laws and / or two years of hospital collections or completion of a Medical Secretary program in lieu of experience is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1) Knowledge and proficiency in the operation of PC procedures with emphasis on specific hospital collection applications, i.e., Medicare, Medical Assistance, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. 2) Knowledge of the assigned third parties' billing requirements: a) Medicare b) Medicaid c) Blue Cross d) Commercial e) HMO f) MVA g) OVR h) MH/MR i) Workman's Compensation
