Position Overview:

The Customs Entry Writer is responsible for preparing and processing customs documentation for the import of goods into the United States. This role ensures that shipments comply with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations while maintaining excellent communication with clients, carriers, and government agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file customs entries and ensure timely submission to U.S. Customs and other relevant government agencies.
  • Classify goods in accordance with U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  • Communicate with customers to obtain necessary information for customs clearance.
  • Review documents such as commercial invoices, bill of lading, and packing lists for accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to ensure timely clearance of goods.
  • Stay updated on customs regulations, tariff changes, and trade policies.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of all transactions.
  • Resolve any issues related to customs delays, fees, or rejections.
  • Liaise with U.S. Customs, CBP officers, and other government agencies as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service by updating clients on the status of their shipments.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer or in customs brokerage.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, and trade compliance.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in International Business, Logistics, or related field is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in customs brokerage software (e.g., Descartes, CargoWise).
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications: U.S. Customs Broker License is a plus.
