Glen Raven Material Solutions is recruiting for a Custom Compliance Specialist. The primary role of this position is to assist the Customs Compliance Manager in tasks that support the day-to-day imports and exports of the business, and the Customs Compliance program and its processes. The Customs Compliance Specialist works with business units and functions to ensure compliance with U.S. Customs laws, rules, regulations, and requirements. Responsibilities:
- Daily monitoring, inquiry, resolution, and communication as the primary point of contact with internal and external parties to facilitate timely movement of import and export shipments to and from US.
- Advise and assist internal stakeholders on customs compliance and import/export related inquiries.
- Provide support with classification (assign HTSUS), valuation, FTA qualification, and documentation requests and inquiries as needed.
- Pursue continuing improvements to processes.
- Work with shippers, freight forwarders, logistics service-providers, customs brokers to ensure all information and documentation is complete and accurate.
- Audit import entries filed by customs brokers and provide them with direction to make the appropriate corrections when errors are found.
- Maintain recordkeeping database for all customs compliance related documentation.
- Write and monitor SOPs to keep up to date with current processes.
- Special projects and duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors of Science/Administration Degree in related area or equivalent education and related training.
- CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) certification, Licensed Customs Broker or in pursuit of license, or evidence of knowledge acquired through work experience in the field.
- Minimum of 3 years in customs compliance or import/export operations experience required, preferably in the textile or apparel industries.
- Working knowledge of global trade regulations: Customs Regulations, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), recordkeeping, valuation, etc.
- Experience in classifying merchandise (determine HTSUS), preferably in the textile or apparel industry.
- Experience with USMCA, CAFTA, and other FTAs.
- High ethical standards, demonstrated success in applying independent judgment, strong project development, and management skills.
- Organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent analytical and math skills.
