Job Description:

Dam Safety Engineer

-Fully remote opportunity provided location is within or proximate to New York State

Job Responsibilities

-Commensurate with responsibilities of ASCE Engineer Grade IV or V

-Effectively communicate and coordinate with multi-disciplinary staff, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and private and public clients to effectively manage and deliver riverine and dam projects

-Lead geotechnical and/or structural analyses and designs including but not limited to:

  • Conducting visual dam safety inspections
  • Planning subsurface explorations and other geotechnical investigations
  • Conducting slope stability and seepage analyses for steep slopes, existing embankment dams, and proposed improvements using SLIDE, SLOPE/W, or similar software packages
  • Design of slope stability improvements, retaining structures, seepage control measures, dam crest raises, and/or spillway improvements for dams
  • Design of temporary water control measures (cofferdams, etc.)

-Lead the preparation of technical reports for client and regulatory review, including:

  • Technical memorandums detailing engineering calculations and recommendations
  • Engineering Assessments (NY), Phase 1 Inspections (MA), or similar
  • Alternatives analyses and feasibility assessments
  • Basis of Design reports

-Lead the development of Bid Documents, including drawings and technical specifications, for the construction, rehabilitation, repair, and/or removal of dams

-Support construction including submittal reviews and occasional engineering site visits

-Support the preparation of marketing materials and proposals, including developing technical approaches, scopes of work, and budgets

-Lead internal and external meetings, including public meetings

-Develop relationships and new business opportunities with existing and potential clients

-Support, supervise, and/or lead drafting using AutoCAD Civil3D

-Supervise the technical work of and mentor junior and support staff

-Day travel within New York and/or adjacent states and limited overnight travel (less than ten nights per year)

Minimum Qualifications

-Five to ten years engineering experience to lead the aforementioned job responsibilities with regular independent review and peer discussion

-Professional Engineer licensed, or able to become licensed within six months, in New York, Pennsylvania, and other northeastern states

-Engineering experience in the geotechnical and/or structural design of dams

-Conceptual familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulics

-Prior experience as lead author for technical memorandums and/or reports

Preferred Qualifications

-Ten to twenty years engineering experience to self-direct accomplishment of the aforementioned job responsibilities with end-of-task independent quality assurance reviews

-Engineering experience in technical fishways, landslide mitigation, pipe design, emergency action planning, erosion and sediment control design, bridge design, and/or hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of dams and riverine systems

-Two or more years experience managing projects

-Experience serving as Engineer-of-Record for ten projects

-Prior drafting experience using AutoCAD Civil3D

-Understanding of permit process for dam safety, wetlands, waters of the United States and/or states, erosion and sediment control, historic and cultural resources, and other permits as they pertain to designing projects to comply with permitting requirements and conditions

Benefits

-Expected salary range: $90,000 to $130,000, dependent on location and experience with higher range expected for those candidates that have sufficient experience managing and leading similar projects and are able to contribute to business development immediately
