Description The ideal candidate will perform in the role of a Dari/Pashtu Language Data Analyst. This candidate will be responsible for accurately translating report/texts in electronics and hard-copy format that not only contain facts, but also some abstract language showing and ability to capture intended implications and many nuances. In addition, the selected candidate must have the ability to capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic and cultural elements in text. Duties and Responsibilities Translation Can translate a wide variety of complex texts that may contain difficult, idiomatic, scientific, and colloquial writing. Can capture subtleties, nuance, tone and register Transcription • Able to interpret at virtually all levels, including complex or highly complex idiomatic speech with a very high degree of accuracy • Has excellent command in terms of speaking and comprehension of one or more dialects • Can successfully render expressions specific to a culture, and convey almost all subtleties and nuances appropriately Interpretation • Must be interpret with high-degree of accuracy • The ability to consecutive interpretation is needed, but on rare occasions simultaneous interpretation maybe required General • Prompt and regular attendance • Other duties as assigned by department Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Near native proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in the Dari and Pashtu language • Must also have near native proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in English • Has a good understanding of regional dialects • Adheres to translation/transcription/interpretation protocols Interface This position will interact with both internal and external customers to include members of FedSys Senior Management and the US Interagency Community. Security Requirements Candidate must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening as a condition of employment. Currently, any Dari/Pashtu Language Data Analyst must possess a clearance and maintain an ISSA Top-Secret security clearance for the duration of employment once cleared. The selected individual may/will be subject to a government security background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements. Clearance level requirement may be subject to change at the government's discretion. In this event, you will be required to obtain and maintain the required clearance for the duration of your employment. Incumbent may be selected at a higher or lower clearance level as specified by any change made by the Government. Work Environment The work environment, typical to an office environment, characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. Some travel may be expected. Infrequent travel in support of customers' needs may be required. Monday through Friday work days working 8 hours a day. Work Location WMA (Washington Metro Area) - time to be split between two locations in the WMA area Testing requirements Approved testing, translation and speaking, listening and reading Language and level required Dari (SENIOR) Pashtu (Senior) - Must score a 4 on the translation test Educational / Work Experience • Bachelor's Degree is required or its equivalent (4 years or more of on-the-job experience in the Specific HLT field) • Must have 15 or more years professional work experience • Must be able to perform full range of activities as a linguist i.e. translation, transcription, interpretation Additional Skills • Ability to identify and accurately summarize factual points as well as abstract concepts Web • Must possess computer skills: including MS Office, to be able to produce written translations and products sufficient internet skills that will allow basic research on the Web • Excellent English-language skills verbal communication skills to present briefings • 4 years of HLT-related experience such as Java, Python, HTML highly desired; US immigration experience is highly desired Tool Familiarity • Microsoft Office tools & Applications is required • PowerPoint is required Professional/Certification Requirements Advanced professional capabilities This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the position and is not an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with it.
