Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.Class Description A Data Analyst is an entry-level position that performs work involving studying and interpreting data to provide insight to decision makers. Data Analysts are responsible for gathering data, organizing information, analyzing historical results, making forecasts and projections, making recommendations, and generating Excel models, presentations, and reports. Work of this class does not involve any supervisory duties or responsibilities.Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, subject to evening or weekend work as required. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal and requires minimal physical exertion.SELECTION PROCESS All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their application will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. Technical credentials may be substituted for six months of experience or education. Multiple certifications may receive additional credit towards education/experience.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have skills in at least one of the following: R, Python, GIS, SQL, PowerBI, Tableau.Required Knowledges, Skills And Abilities Baseline understanding of principles and theory within area(s) of responsibility (gained through multiple years of progressive experience, training or formal education in area of assignment) and is developing depth of knowledge and practical application.Skilled in the diagnosis, troubleshooting and/or maintenance of IT systems.New technology (as applicable): Learn to operate and maintain new technology; assist in transitions.Resolves problems requiring analysis and the discernment of the most suitable solution(s)/processes(s) available. Selects from in the box /best practice models/strategies to resolve problems.Uses skills and abilities to complete routine tasks at the beginning, while growing toward completing tasks of increasing complexity.Uses basic understanding of the field to perform job duties; may need some guidance on job duties; applies learning to recommend options to address unusual situations.Recognizes basic knowledge and skills and the ability to apply learning in everyday situations under direct guidance or supervision.Competent to work on several phases of computer operations, but still needs instruction and guidance for other (more complex) phases.Participates in specialized projects under the direction of a higher-level IT professional.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Strong problem-solving skills.EXAMINATION PROCESS Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the qualifications for this recruitment.
