Intern - Data Analyst Department - Market Monitoring Minimum Education Level: Masters preferred, Bachelors will be considered Preferred Majors: Data Analytics, Computer Science, Economics, Econometrics or related fieldDepartment Description: The Internal Market Monitoring Department is responsible for monitoring the competitiveness and performance of New England's wholesale electricity markets. To accomplish this, the department collects and analyzes complex market data, and implements market power mitigation rules to deter market behavior that may interfere with the competitive and efficient operation of the markets. What will you be working on: In this role you will work with a diverse group, including market analysts, data scientists and economists, to monitor wholesale market outcomes and market participant behavior. This internship will teach you how to pull complex data, analyze the output and create easy to understand visualizations to be presented to others in the group or to management. You will learn about the electricity market and be able to understand the ISO's role in the transition to clean and efficient markets. Responsibilities include: Assisting with the design and development of interactive dashboards in R using various packages and extensions. Assisting in the development of insightful metrics and screens designed to gauge the performance of the market. Assisting the department in analyzing market results and market participant behavior. What we look for in a candidate: Good working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Demonstrated ability to research, document, and share new knowledge resources to build team understanding of new functionality and methodologies Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to collaborate with others on a team Programming experience with SAS and/or R in the following capacity: data processing, data visualization, data analytics, and interactive dashboard development a plus To be eligible for the internship candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program.
