Data Analyst Office of the Executive Director - Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) Salary Range: $77,996 to $77,996 + Washington State Employee Benefits FLSA - Full-time Salary, Exempt *This Primarily Remote position must be eligible to work in the US and only within Washington State*. Carefully read the job description to determine your qualifications for this position.The WSBA's mission is to serve the public and the members of the Bar, to ensure the integrity of the legal profession, and to champion justice.Purpose and Position Summary: This is a new position to the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA). The Data Analyst is responsible for complex and advanced research and analysis. This position will utilize data from internal and external sources to recommend and implement solutions, make decisions that have long range impacts exercising considerable discretion, and requiring independent thinking and judgment. This position identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets, producing statistical and narrative reports, assists in making strategic, data- driven recommendations, and assists with developing analytical frameworks to support current and future initiatives. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities: Consult with and assist management in making strategic data-related decisions by:
  • Analyzing operational procedures and policies to advise management regarding efficiencies and potential impacts of changes or new programs
  • Analyzing business needs, opportunities, and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers
  • Developing technical work methods in production of projects and analyses of research data
  • Making recommendations for alternate methods of data collection procedures, sample selections and statistical requirements
  • Working with team leaders and members to solve analytics issues and documenting results and methodology
  • Determining feasibility of major research projects; may plan or assist with research studies
  • Model and frame business scenarios that impact business decisions/processes
Data Analysis:
  • Outline, organize, and execute non-routine technical data or statistical analysis
  • Conduct data analysis and moderately complex design algorithms
  • Validate analysis by comparing appropriate samples
  • Identify and interpret trends and patterns in datasets
  • Follow well-defined plans, methods, and procedures to gather, compile, code, classify and analyze data using statistical reasoning
  • Model and frame data scenarios requiring analysis to provide probability modeling
  • Compare data from various sources to identify trends, differences, and similarities
  • Review data for accuracy and completeness
Data Collection:
  • Extract data through data mining techniques from multiple systems across various departments
  • Develop data queries to extract data
  • Assist others to identify problem areas for analytical research and participate in data related projects
  • Works with stakeholders (vendors, consultants, etc.) outside the organization to obtain and exchange information, ideas, and recommendations
  • Lead inquiry process with stakeholders who own the data
  • Review and/or assist in revising forms to collect or display data
Data Reporting:
  • Design report formats and compose accompanying narrative reports, including the identification and evaluation of issues and resolutions
  • Review various statistical analyses reports prepared by other entities (consultants, salary surveys, etc.) to evaluate their impact on, or relationship to, the organization's goals and objectives
  • Ensure high quality data report production that integrates the use of multiple analytical processes
Data Design:
  • Work with stakeholders to coordinate data design, collection, analysis, and reporting activities
  • Design project data requirements and data mining methods, algorithms, and apply statistical reasoning and procedure (includes preparing instructions, training plans, and checking procedures for uniformity)
  • Develop extraction methods for conducting data mining by creating database queries
  • Develop and recommend innovative and effective approaches to business improvement and communicate results and methodologies
  • Create specifications for forms, reports, and analysis based on business needs and required or available data elements
Other duties

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Course work in statistics or mathematics or related fields
Education Preferred:
  • Advanced degree in computer science, statistics, or information systems
  • Certification in data analytics (e.g., CAP - Certified Analytics Professional)
Experience Required:
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting complex data
  • Experience working with databases and spreadsheets
  • Experience designing and facilitating data collection, including quantitative and qualitative data
  • Skills in integrating and manipulating data from various formats and systems/ software
  • Ability to work with and maintain highly sensitive and confidential data information
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and maintain schedule to meet deadlines
  • Ability to prepare a variety of interoffice communications, correspondence, forms, statistics, and reports of a routine or special nature
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Awareness of and ability to mitigate or otherwise address the impact of bias and systemic inequities in the collection of and interpretation of data
Experience Preferred:
  • Experience performing complex data analyses in various specialties (financial, operational, structural, etc.)
  • Experience using data to measure social change

Working Conditions: This position, while primarily remote, must be flexible to work in office or travel within WA state as deemed necessary, or as required. This position may also have the option to work in-office. For remote work, must have an adequate home/work environment and internet access, for performing work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature. Employment with the Washington State Bar Association mandates that WSBA Staff must reside within the State of Washington at the time of hire, and during active employment status. The essential functions of the job that must be performed, with or without a reasonable accommodation: This position must be able to regularly work five days per week in an office type environment (remote or in office), possess the ability to primarily sit/stand and use a computer, and lift/push/pull items weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to operate a computer keyboard, and other standard office equipment (e.g., printer/scanner/fax/telephone). This position must be able to read, write, and speak with others in English.
