Job: Data Analyst (Neuroscience and Behavior) Job Summary: Gutierrez lab seeks a Data Analyst for part-time work over the summer. Job Description: Data Analyst will perform data analyses relevant to the Drosophila connectome research project(s) underway in the Gutierrez lab. In addition, they will perform coding tasks in python pertaining to the consolidation, organization, and optimization of analysis codes. These duties will entail thorough documentation of processes to ensure reproducibility that is up to the rigorous standards of reproducible scientific research and analysis. The Gutierrez lab must have complete access to analysis codes and they must be made publicly available following publication of our studies that use them. Analyst may be asked to consult with PI (Gabrielle) and/or students involved in the lab's research to provide insight into analyses and coding solutions, including informational presentations and tutorial sessions given to the lab. Analyst will work remotely while maintaining communication over email and through the lab Basecamp app. They will use their own computer and internet service to complete their work. Additional computing resources needed to complete computationally intensive work in a reasonable manner, such as time on the HPC at Columbia or cloud computing, may be paid for by the lab if requested. A list of tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Edit, or create anew, code for automating the export and pre-processing of results from the generalized modularity analysis.
  • Implement the completeness analysis for the generalized modularity results based on the Methods section of Kunin et al., 2023 (
  • Implement a statistical analysis of the results from the generalized modularity analysis after running it multiple times with different random seeds.
  • Consolidate and organize analysis codes from Gutierrez-lab GitHub repositories.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements: Pay Rate: $30.00/hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
