Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, the Data Analytics Specialist is a key contributor to the UCSF Audit and Advisory Services team. This role is pivotal in leveraging advanced data analytics and automation tools to access and analyze data from various systems, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient analytics support. The Data Analytics Specialist will design, build, and maintain departmental and enterprise-wide dashboards, ensuring they provide real-time insights into key metrics and trends, and are user-friendly and visually appealing. The Data Analytics Specialist will lead initiatives in automating data processes, contributing to the modernization and maturation of the data analytics program. Responsibilities include complex data analysis, reporting, development of automated scripts and programs for continuous monitoring, and detection of transaction irregularities. The work performed supports the annual risk assessment, internal projects such as audits, advisory services, investigations, and developing automated solutions for departments like the Controller's Office.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $170,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF Audit & Advisory Services is dedicated to enhancing university operations through robust audit, advisory, and investigative services. As a trusted advisor, A&AS delivers timely, risk-based information and insights, fostering effective decision-making across the university. Our comprehensive approach includes financial, compliance, and operational audits, continuous education on risk management, and support for external audits and investigations. By employing advanced tools like ACL Analytics Exchange and Tableau, we produce automated reports and develop customizable scripts and analyses, empowering departments to optimize business processes and decision-making. Our expertise helps uncover essential patterns and trends, aiding stakeholders in enhancing productivity, identifying risks, and crafting informed solutions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5-7 years of progressive, relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with scripting tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Windows Scripting Host, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience with analytical tools (e.g., ACL, Tableau, Alteryx, Pandas, TeamMate Analytics, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with databases (e.g., Oracle, Db2, MS SQL).
  • Demonstrated skills needed to develop process and system implementation plans.
  • Advanced knowledge of data quality, governance, and management practices and standards.
  • Understanding and skill in complex process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations, and narrative description.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Analytics Professional (CAP).
  • Certified Data Professional (CDP).
  • Proficiency in cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud, Workday) and audit or GRC software (TeamMate).
  • Proficiency in audit software (e.g., TeamMate, Audit Board).
