Job Description:

Data Engineer - Health Claims Data Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Engineer to join our team. This role will focus on building and maintaining data pipelines and infrastructure to support the analysis of health claims data. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of data warehousing principles, experience with data visualization tools (specifically Tableau), and proficiency in SQL and cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Redshift, Athena). Experience with health claims data is a significant advantage. Responsibilities:

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming health claims data from various sources.
  • Data Modeling: Design and implement dimensional data models optimized for analytical querying and reporting of health claims data.
  • Data Warehousing: Build and maintain data warehouses in Amazon Redshift to store and manage large volumes of health claims data.
  • ETL Processes: Develop and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using tools like AWS Glue or similar.
  • Data Quality: Implement data quality checks and validation procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of health claims data.
  • Performance Optimization: Tune data pipelines and queries for optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Data Visualization: Create interactive dashboards and reports in Tableau to visualize key metrics and insights from health claims data.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data analysts, business stakeholders, and other engineers to understand data needs and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data pipelines, data models, and processes.
  • Stay Current: Keep abreast of the latest technologies and best practices in data engineering, particularly in the healthcare domain.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a focus on data warehousing and ETL development.
  • Health Claims Data: Proven experience working with health claims data (e.g., medical claims, pharmacy claims, eligibility files) and understanding healthcare industry standards (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Data Visualization: Strong experience with data visualization tools, specifically Tableau, to create dashboards and reports.
  • Database Skills:
    • Expert-level SQL skills with experience in MySQL.
    • Experience with Amazon Redshift (data warehousing) and Amazon Athena (querying data in S3).
  • Cloud Technologies: Solid understanding of cloud computing concepts and experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, IAM, etc.).
  • Data Modeling: Experience with dimensional data modeling techniques and best practices.
  • ETL Tools: Familiarity with ETL tools and frameworks (AWS Glue, Informatica, etc.).
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python preferred).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Bonus Points:
  • Experience with other data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker).
  • Familiarity with healthcare data formats (e.g., HL7, FHIR).
  • Experience with data governance and data security best practices in the healthcare industry.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
