Duties/Responsibilities - Plan/Develop/Execute Train Control research studies with a focus on system data quality, statistical modeling, and evaluation of component performance for federal, industry, and internal metrics.
- Experience leading small teams, creating documentation, and collaborating with development teams, creating an environment of growth and learning.
- Architecting high-performance, secure, backend systems; tuned for performance and the ability to troubleshoot existing infrastructure issues.
- Evaluate and advise appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools based on project requirements.
- Show active commitment and urgency to support customers expecting minimal downtime in an industry operating 24/7.
- Communicate technical specifications/solutions/challenges to various non-technical business stakeholders.
- Support initiatives aiming to leverage technology/automation to gain operating efficiencies and drive change.
- Collaborate with customers to combine system data (i.e. DB2, Teradata, SQL, Data Warehouse, PostGres) providing specific, measurable, actionable information conclusions for business decisions.
- Maintain positive working relationships with individuals at all levels, including working on difficult issues within and across departmental boundaries and handling multiple requests simultaneously.
- Provide consideration for a wide range of factors beyond the immediate project and an understanding of the future desired state of the organization.
- Perform statistical analysis of system data produced and clearly communicate results.
- Develop performance evaluations of new and existing systems.
Qualifications - 6+ years of experience in C#/.NET with emphasis on ADO.NET and .NET Core.
- 4+ years of experience with data engineering and a strong background in on-prem ETL tools and solutions.
- 4+ years of experience working on SQL Server. Have a strong understanding of indexes, replication, and SSIS. Experience working with DB2,PostGres and Teradata would be a plus.
- 4+ years of experience with building scalable APIs and the ability to architect secure, efficient, and performant solutions.
- 4+ years of experience with Azure Devops/TFS/GIT.
- Strong ownership, analytical, and communication skills to convey information to both technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to deliver while operating with occasionally limited and open-ended requirements.
- Understand and identify downstream impacts of complex changes/requirements.
- Understanding and translating business needs into technical specifications for development teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Effective problem-solver and ability to create innovative solutions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications - 3+ years of experience with the railroad and/or other transportation/Logistics industries with a combined experience of 7+ years.
- Python programming experience is a plus.
- Experience in database design and dimensional modeling.
- Exposure to data analytics solutions and dashboard tools such as PowerBI and Tableau would be a plus.
- Experience working with Messaging Systems and building producers/consumers for Kafka/RabbitMQ/QPID/Tibco would be ideal.
- Familiar with one cloud environment; AWS or Azure.
- Understands continuous integration and delivery concepts.
- Work experience with data analytics, machine learning, or modeling.
