*This role is eligible to be performed remotely, however, if you reside within 60 miles of Lands' End's offices in Dodgeville, WI or New York, NY, you will be expected to collaborate onsite in a hybrid fashion for up to 12 days per month. We are looking for a savvy Data Engineer to join our growing team of analytics and data science/engineering experts. You will be responsible for supporting marketing-related executive reporting, data requests, converting existing processes to open-source technologies, and playing an important role in data governance at Lands' End. In addition, as a key member of our data engineering team, you will support the team's data scientists and data analysts on data initiatives. You are self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. In addition, you would be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even helping redesign the company's data architecture to support next generation architectures and processes. - Creating code for production and ad hoc reports, analysis, analytics, and data requests using open-source technologies
- Design effective visual interfaces using BI technologies riding atop your custom data structures
- Consult with business leaders using data and analysis as the foundation of your guidance and recommendations
- Automate business processes
- Be a key member of the data governance process at Lands' End while ensuring data quality and relevance
- Assemble sometimes large, complex data sets that meet business requirements
- Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
- Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader
- Support the marketing efforts of ecommerce, email, catalog, merchandising, retail, and market research
- Share technical knowledge and mentor other staff members within broader analytics and e-commerce communities
Qualifications
- Experience in a Data or Reporting Engineering role and attained a BS in Computer Science or related field. Applicable graduate work is a plus.
- Advanced working SQL knowledge, and experience (~ 4+ yrs) working with relational databases, complex query authoring (SQL), query debugging, as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases. Must have demonstrated experience in various joins, use of subqueries, use of join keys and where filters, and joining multiple tables.
- Strong Python skills and experience (~ 2 yrs +), with PySpark experience a strong plus
- Experience and skill with data visualizations and creating presentation layers with BI technologies. Experience with open source BI tools is a plus.
- Strong MS Excel skills
- A passion for data - understanding its sources, uses, strengths, and weaknesses. An understanding of the principles around effective data governance in a corporate environment, and a knack for data quality.
- Able to set clear and comprehensive requirements, and communicate clearly in both speaking and writing
- Items that would be a strong plus: Spark, Cloud experience (AWS a plus), strong Linux skills, Postgres/Netezza, experience with MS SQL Server
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
- Strong project management and organizational skills
