As Texas's largest workers' compensation provider, we help injured workers return to a productive life, give businesses the tools to thrive, invest in our communities, and empower our employees to do their best work.Our Medical Bill Coding department acts on that mission by ensuring proper entry of medical bills and collaborating with stakeholders to provide cost savings to Texas Mutual, policyholders, and injured workers. As a Medical Bill Coder, you will work closely with auditors and Texas healthcare providers who provide care to injured workers. This role demands a self-motivated, results-driven individual who strongly emphasizes accuracy and efficiency. Quick learning and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment are crucial. Proficiency in using technology to gather information and complete tasks is required, along with familiarity with common office software suites and online research tools.Responsibilities & QualificationsIn this role, you can expect to:
  • Enter billing data into company systems from imaged medical, hospital, and pharmacy claim forms.
  • Use the company's provider match software to attach provider records to electronic bills for payment.
  • Review system-generated errors and determine if the bill is to be completed for medical audit review, forwarded for research, or deleted for return.
  • Work collaboratively within a team, managing multiple queues daily to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in managing diverse tasks and priorities while maintaining high accuracy and productivity standards.
  • Contribute to the team's overall performance by sharing knowledge, supporting co-workers and actively participating in process improvements.
It's required that you:
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Type at least 40 wpm.
  • Note: the interview process will begin with a typing assessment.
It would be great to also have:
  • Knowledge of Workers' Compensation and/or Medicare medical billing.
  • Proficiency in medical coding systems; such as ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and understanding of billing procedures.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
  • Experience working in a healthcare provider's office.
Texas Mutual Pay TransparencyThe base pay range is based on the market evaluation of the job and may include pay for multiple levels. Individual base pay within the range is determined by a variety of factors, including experience, performance, education, and demonstration of skills and competencies required for each role. Base Pay Range: $20.00 - $22.23 Per HourFlex-Hybrid Work Environment:Texas Mutual's flex-hybrid schedule allows you to bring your best self to work by working remotely and collaborating in the office based on business needs.
