Job Description:
Job Summary: Join our team as a Data Governance Specialist and play a key role in shaping Tenaska's data strategy. This position focuses on metadata management and data cataloging, where you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust metadata standards and practices across the company. You will work closely with data stewards and business units to ensure that our data assets are accurately cataloged, easily discoverable, and consistently governed. Your efforts will be pivotal in driving data quality, enhancing data transparency, and enabling mature levels of data management across the enterprise. This is your chance to make a significant impact on how Tenaska leverages data for strategic decision-making and long-term success. Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop and implement metadata management strategies, ensuring accurate and consistent documentation of data assets.
  • Maintain and enhance the organization's data catalog, ensuring data is easily discoverable, accessible, and governed in alignment with established standards.
  • Conduct data catalog administration activities, including the configuration and automation of workflows, data profile connectors, user interfaces and dashboards etc.
  • Conduct data profiling, data classification and segmentation, data lineage, and business glossary activities
  • Provide ongoing support and training to business units on metadata management and data cataloging practices.
  • Conduct regular audits of metadata and catalog entries to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and relevance.
  • Support and advocate for data governance framework and policies, including the core principles: data ownership and data taxonomy
  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to support data governance initiatives and projects.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data governance, metadata management, and data cataloging, and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Participate in cross-functional data governance working groups to promote data governance culture and practices across the organization.
Education/Experience/SkillsBasic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related Business degree.
  • Experience with data catalog tools and the ability to implement and optimize these tools.
  • Understanding of metadata management practices, including data taxonomy, data profiling, metadata capture, business glossary, and data lineage.
  • Knowledge of data storage and business intelligence technologies and their integration with data catalogs
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and drive consensus on data governance initiatives.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in managing data and metadata.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and emerging data technologies
Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related Business degree
  • Experience and certification in data governance, specifically metadata management.
  • Track record of successfully leading metadata management projects.
  • Background in data engineering and data analytics.
  • Fundamental understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
