Job Description

As a Data Scientist, you will be embedded with our San Diego-based client, the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) to help solve essential problems to deterrence.

You'll be pulling data sources, cleaning data, setting up machine learning problems, coding solutions to physical problems, and running machine learning models. You'll be working with code blocks from Rhombus, but the problem sets will be highly classified.

This is an ambitious role that will make formative impacts on topical deterrence issues, combined with significant opportunities for growth at Rhombus. We're seeking candidates that understand how high the stakes are and are happy to do whatever it takes to get the job done. You'll work in small teams to fully own the delivery of high-stakes projects with our client.

What we seek:

  • You'll use your experience in data science, data engineering, and machine learning to lead analytical exploration and data examination while managing the assessment, design, building, and maintenance of scalable platforms for our client.
  • Bring your systems-level mindset and focus on delivering production solutions with AI, data processing pipelines, and advanced analytics tools.
  • Discover datasets that could help in solution development, and design, create, and implement quantitative models.
  • Conduct validation and quality assurance of data, models, and results with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to collaborate efficiently in teams of technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment with evolving objectives and direct iteration with users.

Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance is a requirement
  • A strong academic background in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar degree is highly desired. We prefer candidates to hold at minimum a Masters degree.
  • Exceptional academic and industry experience with Python and especially with data handling libraries such as Pandas and PyArrow.
  • Strong background in database management solutions, familiarity with databases such as MySQL and Oracle.
  • Large-scale data processing and implementing batch processing pipelines in HPC or cloud architecture.
  • Experience with Cloud Computing environments (AWS, GCloud, Azure) is a plus.
  • Deep experience with programming and scripting languages, with a strong focus on Python, Pandas, and Numpy. Other languages include: Shell, PERL, Java, C/C++/C#, Scala, etc.
  • Exceptional technical fluency in machine learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, etc.)

Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to contextualize data as it relates to Rhombus' vision. We want someone who can understand the “why” and “so what”, and not just the “how”.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • We're seeking candidates with strong intellectual curiosity and creativity, with an ability and willingness to learn new skills and apply novel solutions to problems.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced start-up environment is crucial, with the ability to consistently revise your approach in response to new information, and to be flexible and adaptive.
