These strategies include supporting better population health by improving the quality of care and population health of the University of California health system's 14 million patients.

As part of this exciting and important endeavor, the UCSF IT Enterprise Information and Analytics (EIA) department is looking for a Manager to join the EIA-Health Operations team. The Data Warehouse Manager- Adults will be responsible for and take ownership of the EIA data and analytics portfolio that includes but is not limited to, resources that manage back-end data curation, data visualization, and reporting needs for the Adult Business Unit stakeholders, business data strategy, data governance, and other analytic needs in the future to support the development and maintenance of EIA metrics and related reporting tools. This role will also work collaboratively with other UCSF IT teams. The Manager will recruit and manage a strong analytics team, set direction, set goals, plan for their career growth, and provide mentorship for the team. In addition, the Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise data strategy that aligns enterprise information assets with the business and technology strategy. The Manager will enable the efficient and actionable use of data across the UCSF Enterprise.

The Manager of EIA Health Operations - Adults will work with key business leaders and stakeholders, EDW and analytics management, data governance staff, primary and secondary data owners, and BI and data management professionals to:

  • Define and implement a data strategy and roadmap for UCSF
  • Define and document the data architecture for enterprise data assets, working with business and IT stakeholders throughout the enterprise
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models with associated metadata including data lineage and technical data definitions
  • Oversee the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to ensure accurate and timely data integration from various source systems.
  • Coordinate, collaborate and influence across disparate domains, entities, business units, departments and levels as needed to establish and provide standards, define, and prioritize data analytics and reporting requirements, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Define governance policies and establish standards for modeling, structuring, naming, describing, securing, and formatting data, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to implement data governance and data management best practices across the organization.
  • Lead in design and implement data models, data marts, and dimensional schemas to support efficient and effective data retrieval and analysis.
  • Ensure staff are committed to centralized data-architecture practice in support of strategic business and IT goals. Manage a team of data engineers and analysts, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and advancements in data warehouse management and healthcare data standards, identifying opportunities for system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Support the development and implementation of data analytics and reporting tools and technologies, such as data visualization and business intelligence platforms.
  • Disseminate program strategies, activities, and accomplishments.
  • Lead efforts to implement a reference data and master data management plan.
  • Supervise, hire, train, counsel staff. Develop and deliver performance appraisals.
  • The Data Warehouse Manager of the Adults team will stay abreast of current and emerging technologies and trends for enterprise measurement and reporting; the Manager will be expected to provide advice on how they can be used to support business strategic objectives. The Manager will create a framework in information assets for multiple business domains that can be delivered in a consistent, standards-based framework. The successful candidate will have leadership skills, be customer-focused, have extensive experience in the science behind reporting enterprise metrics, and have knowledge about regulatory reporting requirements. This manager will have a focus in the UCSF Adult domain.

    Department Description

    The Enterprise Information & Analytics - Health Operations team functions as a liaison between the customer or partners in the organization (including clinical, financial, administration, education, and research domains) and technical resources to provide optimal analytic solutions to solve problems, answer questions and meet the needs of our customers. The team is involved in strategic and operational activities to drive change in behavior and, ultimately, outcomes using data and information.

    Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
  • 7 - 10 years' experience in healthcare or related field
  • 5+ years' experience architecting and modeling data management solutions in the healthcare or related industry
  • Successful track record of eliciting, defining, creating, and analyzing functional and non-functional requirements, developing system design and architecture, system configuration, testing and deployment. With proven aptitude in the delivery of high-quality products in short timelines
  • Ability to define and implement technical processes and data systems
  • Broad, working knowledge of MS SQL, Oracle, and other DB systems
  • Experience in developing technical staff
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to lead teams, manage complex information, assess problems, and develop effective solutions. Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment, attention to process and detail.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to collect and analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to build service-based relationships with Medical Center and Campus customers.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and proven success in managing and motivating teams, creating an atmosphere of trust, and encouraging improvement and innovation
  • Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks
  • Able to prioritize effectively according to department and/or customer needs, and ability to organize many changing variables.

  • Masters in related field preferred
  • 8+ years architecting and modeling data management solutions
  • Eight years of performing data science and data analytics
  • Experience in healthcare business data management, analysis, and support, or IT consulting
  • Experience in IT project / Software development across full systems development lifecycle
  • Experience working with agile development process
  • Consulting experience a plus - a professional service industry environment within a global matrix
  • Experience with Epic Clarity and Cogito
  • Experience with financial, operational, HR, payroll, and research data
