Context
At Mercuria we have a new position to expand our internal DBA team capabilities and are looking for a new experienced DBA to join our expanding team.
The DBA team is responsible for both the long term strategic planning, execution of changes through to the ongoing support of all SQL based database technology. This includes a forward looking focus on improving our capabilities through technical innovation and improved support practices, spearheading automation wherever possible.
The role will be heavily focussed towards Microsoft SQL across a range of versions but ultimately looking to work in and optimise using SQL 2016, 2019 & 2022 in a fully redundant configuration.
Technologies needed for design, deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting of:
- Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server databases and related software
- Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required
- Ensure the security of the database by implementing security measures and monitoring access
- Optimize and tune database performance, including query optimization and index management
- Develop, manage, and test database disaster recovery plans
- Collaborate with developers to design and implement database schemas, tables, procedures, and permissions
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks and data integrity problems
- Create and maintain documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and policies
- Stay up-to-date with the latest SQL Server features, best practices, and industry trends
The successful candidate will bring a deep technical understanding of the infrastructure services Mercuria provide, but will have strong focus on the longer term planning and team integration.
Technical Expertise:
- AlwaysOn Feature Expert
- Advanced knowledge on Transact-SQL and scripting
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve production problems
- Ability to propose, draft and implement standard and related controls
- Good Experience in Extended Events
- Good Experience in Security and Tuning
- Experience of IT support in a trading environment
- Complete understanding of access management
- Knowledge of SSIS, SSAS, SSRS
- Experience in MSX
- Knowledge of another DB Engine including NoSQL (MongoDB …)
- Knowledge of DB management in the Cloud (AWS / Azure)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server, including installation, configuration, and maintenance
- Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and index management
- Understanding of database security practices and experience implementing security measures
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
