POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of First Aid works with the camp administration and Camp Director to ensure the overall general health and safety of campers and staff. They are responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records according to state and local health department regulations, ACA Standards, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints and GSOFT Policies.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Works with the camp administration and camp staff to coordinate and deliver quality healthcare and safety procedures with overall camp operations for both campers and staff.
* Reviews all health forms prior to opening day of camp to ensure compliance. Contacts families before camp session to inform them of the status of their camper's paperwork. Informs Camp Director on the status of missing health forms for campers and staff.
* Ensures camp administration and staff are aware of any health issues that may impact camp programs.
* Attends all scheduled advisory meetings to inform Leaders of health and behavioral issues.
* Confirms that all medications are in compliance with state standards. Ensures that all medications are dispensed as directed by camper's physician.
* Maintains the confidentiality of all health information of campers and staff.
* Be available to respond to emergencies within the camp.
* Provides care to all injured and sick campers and staff as outlined by physician standing orders.
* Responsible for properly documenting the health care log with all care provided.
* Ensures health care log is signed by Camp Physician on a weekly basis.
* Prepares incident reports as necessary for campers and staff (illness/injury) as applicable. Informs Camp Director in a timely manner of all incidents.
* Prepares all necessary paperwork as required by state guidelines: Plan of Care paperwork, MAR records and health logs.
* Ensures cleanliness and infection control guidelines are maintained. Maintains the Health Center in a clean sanitary manner.
* Ensures the cleanliness of all kitchen and bathroom facilities by daily inspection.
* Reports needed repairs of equipment and facilities.
* Participates in opening and closing procedures of the healthcare center during the camp season.
* Follows Camp Staff Personnel Policies.
* Maintains and restocks inventory in the Health Center and in all mobile first aid kits.
* Participates in all regular camp activities such as meals, flag ceremonies, all-camp activities, cookouts, opening and closing days and kapers.
* Participates in regularly scheduled meetings and trainings to ensure open and positive communication.
* Participates in opening and closing procedures of the healthcare center during the camp season.
* Keeps the Camp Director and their designee informed of activities, problems and concerns on an ongoing basis.
* Strong communication skills required.
* Maintains professional camper/staff relationships throughout the camp season.
* Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
* Must be 21 years of age or older
* 2 years plus experience in the health care industry preferred High School graduate or equivalent. Associate or Bachelor's Degree in healthcare preferred
* Show the willingness to abide by the policies and practices of Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
* RN, LPN, Paramedic, or EMT preferred licensed in CT
* Must hold a current First Aid Certificate, CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, Medication Administration Certification with epi-pen and inhaler training.
* Commitment to the Girl Scout approach to outdoor education and experiential learning
* Strong leadership abilities
* Ability to work with a diverse group of campers and staff (background and abilities).
* The ideal candidate will possess management experience which relates to job responsibilities including successful experience in camping, group leadership, and organizational skills.
* Must possess experience working with children.
* Enthusiasm, energy and a positive presence as a role model
Physical Aspects of the Job:
* Ability to effectively communicate.
* Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
* Must be able to traverse uneven terrain
* Must attend at both optional Camper overnights on Week 2 and 4, as applicable
* Ability to and physically able to endure out-of-doors work environment in extreme weather conditions.
