At Fairfax County's Employees' Child Care Center (ECCC), we pride ourselves on being a team-focused collaborative group, with a love of serving children and a passion for looking out for their wellness and growth.This position provides childcare services at Fairfax County's Employees' Child Care Center (ECCC) located in the Pennino Building at 12011 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Plans and provides age-appropriate childcare and educational programs for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years enrolled in the Fairfax County Employees' Child Care Center.Develops experimental curriculum and enhances the environment according to children's individualized interests and needs.Follows all program procedures to ensure the health, safety, and accountability of children.Performs developmental screening and assessments.Assists in the preparation of documentation for local agency, state licensing, and national early childhood accreditation standards.Interacts with county staff, citizens and members of the childcare community. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Day Care Center Teacher II.Note: This is a part-time merit position that works 20 or 25 hours per week Monday through Friday. The working hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Flexibility is preferred.Illustrative DutiesPlans, coordinates and presents a program of appropriate experiences for children or children with special needs;Develops systems to safeguard the health and safety of the children;Plans and prepares nutritious daily snacks;Develops room arrangements to facilitate a variety of experiences to meet the needs and interests of the children;Plans activities to involve parents in the center's program;Participates in orientation, staff development sessions and teacher meetings;Writes newsletter articles and prepares a calendar of activities involving a particular group of children;Determines supply and equipment needs for their program.Required Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of individual behavior and the growth and development of children and youth, and the impact of group relationships;Knowledge of how cultural patterns, socioeconomic differences and/or physically and mentally handicapping conditions affect the behavior of children;Knowledge of health, safety and first aid methods, and the ability to assume administrative responsibility for assigned areas of a health and safety program;Knowledge of the factors which cause problems in children;Ability to establish warm and supportive relationships with children, on a group and individual basis.Employment StandardsMINIMUM QUALIFICATION:Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:Completion of two years of study and training at an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in early childhood or elementary education, nursing, recreation, or a related field plus one year of related work experience.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and Child Protective Services Registry check to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:At least one (1) year of experience teaching infants, toddlers or pre-school children in a childcare setting.Experience and/or knowledge of working with children with special needs.Child Development Credential.One-year early childhood certificate from a college or university.Certification of qualification from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization, or other childcare related Virginia State license.Credentials and/or experience in Teaching Strategies/Creative Curriculum, Early Head Start or Head Start, and/or Virginia Licensing Guidelines.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Position is active in nature. Must be able to monitor and observe the activities of program participants. Regularly moves about or positions self to supervise and interact with participants at their level. Occasionally lifts, transports, positions, push/pulls or moves up to 50 pounds. Must be sufficiently mobile and possess a range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of program participant. Requires the ability to apply CPR and First Aid skills as needed and respond to emergency situations. Administrative and supervisory activities will require ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend meetings at various locations and make presentations to county staff and community.
