The University of Tennessee at Martin is a comprehensive university within The University of Tennessee System of higher education, located in Northwest Tennessee with regional center locations in Jackson, Parson, Ripley, Selmer, Somerville, and Springfield, TN.
UT Martin has recently experienced tremendous enrollment growth and retention increases. The University had its largest-ever one year enrollment increases, which now stands at 7,499. The first-year retention rate this fall of 77% is the highest in twenty-five years, and overall retention is at a five-year high. UT Martin offers undergraduate degrees in over 100 specialized fields of study within 18 undergraduate degree programs and master's degrees in selected areas.
The College of Engineering and Natural Sciences has 65 faculty members within five departments: Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics and Statistics. The college serves a strategic role in the University's mission to provide a personalized, quality undergraduate education to both traditional and non-traditional students. The college is primarily housed in a 120,000 sq-ft building that opened Spring 2023, has ABET-accredited computer science and engineering programs and ACS-certified chemistry degrees, and oversees the Reelfoot Lake Environmental Field Station, and the STEM Center for Teaching and Learning.
The Opportunity
The University of Tennessee at Martin seeks nominations and applications for Dean of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The Dean is the chief academic officer of the college and provides innovative leadership that celebrates excellence in teaching, advocates for scholarly research, support faculty and student growth, and fosters dynamic, student-centered learning environments.
* Developing initiatives, in collaboration with the college's faculty and staff, to enhance academic offerings and programs that support the region
* Creating an environment that fosters the principles of inclusion and engagement for faculty, staff, students, and those external to the college and university
* Leading budget planning and resource development
* Participating in fundraising activities and grant development
* Communicating and collaborating with the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs on the operation of the college
* Overseeing the recruitment, selection, and orientation of college department heads, faculty, and staff members
* Supervising and evaluating department heads and administrative staff
* Ensuring quality of instruction by recruiting and retaining high-quality faculty, evaluating performance, and identifying and meeting their professional development needs
* Overseeing assessment plans for general education core competencies and student learning outcomes
* Supporting continued compliance with all SACSCOC accreditation
* Assisting with development of innovative academic and co-curricular programs
* Enhancing partnerships with external entities, including business and industry, school systems, community groups, and other state agencies
* Representing the college and its programs at a variety of meetings, public events, or other related engagements
Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. or terminal degree in one of the areas represented by the college and previous experience in academic administration or a leadership position are required. The dean will bring a strong record of teaching, scholarly achievement, and service to justify a tenure-track appointment at the rank of full professor.
