Job Type Full-timeDescriptionAbout Second Harvest Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a private, nonprofit organization that collects, stores and distributes donated food to more than 750 feeding partners in seven Central Florida counties: Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. Last year, with the help of numerous donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributed approximately 82 million meals to partner programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, women's shelters, senior centers, day care centers and Kids Cafes.In addition to providing food to our neighbors facing hunger, Second Harvest also transforms dozens of lives directly every year. Economically-challenged adults who graduate from our 16-week culinary training program are placed in 'better than minimum wage' jobs that set them and their families on a path to self-sufficiency. Another important activity helps connect people who are eligible to receive SNAP food assistance benefits with the resources they need to access the program and get help.Department Overview Plates of Plenty is a service that provides freshly prepared meals to early childcare centers, children's after school programs, group homes, senior feeding programs, and private and charter schools. Plates of Plenty's goal is to provide the freshest, healthiest, and least processed ingredients available, and to deliver them in a safe and timely manner.All meals are prepared in our Darden Foundation Community Kitchen under the supervision of our Chefs and production staff. Proceeds from food service operations are used to further the fight against hunger in our community.Work Hours 6:00-2:30 Monday-Friday (weekends might be required during disaster relief)Job Summary The Delivery Driver for Mercy Kitchen will load food and prepared meals and safely drive the truck to make deliveries to specified destinations within the Plates of Plenty and Medically Tailored Meals programs. The Driver ensures that food is maintained and delivered at proper temperatures, that truck equipment, sanitation and pest control are constantly maintained. The driver will check on clients and ensure that they can accept delivery of food and delivery records are accurately recorded.Job Responsibilities
  • Check truck and equipment at start and end of each day and report equipment problems immediately
  • Ensure cold and heated food storage on the truck are at proper temperatures prior to loading and that foods are properly loaded immediately
  • Verify meal count each day and ensure correct number of meals are loaded
  • Ensure special meals are properly loaded
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures when loading, transporting and delivering meals
  • Retrieve signed delivery slips and file for accountability and audit and customer support purposes
  • Do daily check of truck equipment and heating and cooling units
  • Provide excellent customer services to program participants
  • Check to ensure that program participants are well and able to accept delivery of food
  • Immediately report any pests or insects in the truck or other equipment
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly with the warehouse pack team to ensure proper packing
  • Maintain cleanliness of the truck and immediately report damage/accidents
RequirementsKnowledge, Skills, Education and Experience Required
  • Experience in loading trucks, map reading and food delivery
  • Experience in safe food handling and knowledge of food sanitation standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills in relating to a multi-cultural client and volunteer population
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English
  • Ability to use personal computers and related software
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong customer service abilities
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and a clean driving history
  • One year of experience driving a 10,000 lb van
  • Able to successfully pass a Level 2 Background Check
  • Demonstrated work history of dependability and reliability
