Position Summary
The Dental Assistant is responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of procedures performed by dental staff and assists dentist(s) in all phases of dentistry, including taking diagnostic intra-oral x-rays and completing front desk/registration duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist dentist(s) chair side in all phases of dentistry and manage patient behavior during treatment
* Operate dental radiographic equipment for the purpose of oral radiology; taking diagnostic quality x-rays, developing, and mounting correctly as requested by the dentist(s)
* Follow infection control protocols as specified by professional, state and federal standards
* Provide patients with oral hygiene instructions following dental procedures
* Perform tasks in adherence to all OSHA and regulatory sterilization, infection control, and protective barrier guidelines
* Document treatment and patient information in dental software program
Required Skills or Abilities
* Ability to assist dentist in all phases of dentistry, and take diagnostic intra-oral x-rays
* Strong organizational, administrative, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to effectively present information to others, including other employees, community partners, and vendors
* Ability to work independently with little onsite supervision, using professional judgment and diplomacy
* Work in a team-oriented environment
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills and ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds and to be culturally sensitive
Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration
* Completion of certified Dental Assisting Training Program strongly encouraged
* Current provider-level BLS CPR certification required prior to hire
* Knowledge of proper use of all dental materials and dental equipment and ability to assist dentist
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office strongly preferred
* Coronal Polishing certification and Sealants certification very strongly preferred

Salary
All wages are based on relevant years of experience and time since completing a Dental Assisting program, if relevant. The minimum rate is the wage that a newly graduated Medical Assistant will earn. The range is larger than normal, as there is variation depending on valid certifications earned.
