Summary of Position: The dental assistant provides chair side assistance to the dentist with a wide range of duties. Supports the dental practice and ensure a warm and caring environment for dental patients. Primary Job Responsibilities: Receives seats and prepares patients for dental treatment, including conducting initial interviews with patients regarding medical history taking vital signs. Reviews the dental record to ensure the record is in order and the appropriate radiographs are available. Ensures the appropriate instruments and materials are ready for use by the dentist. Utilize acceptable technical skills in assisting the dentist during all phases of treatment. Prepares the operatory between patients using proper disinfection and infection control procedures in a timely manner. Performs functions consistent with that of a dental assistant. Takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays). Assists with laboratory duties such as pouring models and fabricating custom trays. Follows infection control protocols and policies, prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment. Properly screen urgent care and emergency patients and take necessary radiographs. Helps patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment. Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling). Minimum Qualifications: Previous dental experience required.# NYS Dental certification required.
