Job Profile Summary
The Orthodontic Assistant is responsible for performing detailed Orthodontic procedures and directly assisting with patient care in conjunction with the management of surgical treatment. This role includes preparing for patient hours by setting up rooms, preparing appliances, stocking instruments and supplies. Clinical responsibilities include but not limited to accurate acquisition of 2D and 3D X-rays, intra and extraoral photos, detailed charting, executing precise orthodontic procedures as directed by the provider and coordination of care between multiple providers.
What you will do
Rooms patient, evaluates status, verifies medications/allergies, documents in EMR and starts appointment prior to Doctor entering. Checks intra oral appliances and prepares necessary instruments/ materials for appointment. Provides the Doctor with a detailed synopsis of patient condition, upcoming surgeries, expectations for that days appointment and any questions that patient or parent might have.
Works independently to complete procedures on patients in preparation of orthodontic treatment and or surgery e.g.: placing surgical hooks and wires, obtaining all surgical records, fitting and removing fixed appliances, orthodontic adjustments, pouring and fabrication of appliances, patient and parent education for all pre- and post-operative procedures.
Must work and communicate well with a variety of demographic backgrounds. Must be able to provide care for cleft, craniofacial and patients complex diagnosis. Has the ability to perform and provide care to pediatric patients that may have intellectual and physical disabilities and delays.
General offices duties include, but are not limited to, weekly eye wash inspection, lab cleaning, updating excel spread sheets, creating referrals, filling out lab slips and surgical check lists, stocking all clinical areas and checking inventory, chair side unit maintenance, review of schedule and appliance list, uploading of photos and x-rays into the software program, transportation and documentation of all instruments to and from CPD, following up on surgeries and coordinating dates. Must adhere and stay up to date on all hospital policies and certifications e.g.: HLD certification, BLS training, hand hygiene, EPIC and yearly mandatory trainings.
Ensures all patient safety items and infection control guidelines are met.
Education Qualifications
High School Diploma / GED Required
Technical Diploma Dental Assistant Program Required
Experience Qualifications
At least three (3) years Orthodontic clinical assisting experience Required
At least five (5) years Orthodontic pediatric environment Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Dental Radiologic Technologist (DRT) - New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection - upon hire - Required
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - CPR Certification issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross) - upon hire - Required
