This collaborate oversight of the Dental Assistant ensures quality patient care.AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES1. Opens and closes dental clinic as per the facility policies.2. Receives patients and facilitates the prompt seating of patients for dental care.3. Prepares operatories with hand pieces attached and appropriate tray set-up4. Prepares the patient for dental examinations and procedures.5. Assists the Dentist in direct patient care situations. Hands the Dentist the appropriate instruments (Four-Handed Dentistry)6. Performs dental x-rays and prepares the patient using appropriate shielding as requested by the Dentist.7. Maintains adequate level of supplies and instruments in the operatories.8. Cleans and/or lubricates instruments used in patient care prior to sterilization9. Transports and sends out contaminated instruments and receives sterilized instruments used in patient care appropriately10. Gives dental care instructions to patient adequately and appropriately11. Translates for providers when needed12. Mixes dental materials as requested by the Dentist13. Pours, trims, and package models from impressions for dental prosthetics14. Uses Dentrix and Epic as per established guidelines.15. Disinfects surface work areas, dental chairs, and work areas used during dental care16. Reports to appropriate personnel, shortages in supplies, materials and necessary equipment repairs in a timely manner.17. Upholds the Mission of the Corporation in demonstrating the commitment to provide safe, high quality healthcare to patients.18. Uses effective, courteous communication when working with persons, supervisors and the public19. Knowledgeable of the Corporation and Morrisania's policies and procedures.20. Observes all infection control policies. Uses proper hand washing techniques21. Work together to provide comprehensive, personalized care for all New Yorkers and commit to providing a person-centered care environment while exemplifying ICARE valuesThe above statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent to the position.Minimum Qualifications1. A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program, which included or was supplemented by 600 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside; or2. A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by successful completion of an accredited or approved Dental Assistant Program, which included or was supplemented by 300 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside; and 6 (six) months of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant performing all of the following duties: taking and uploading dental digital imaging, assisting dentist at chairside, and preparing dental instruments for sterilization; or3. A four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent; and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time experience as a Dental Assistant performing the duties described in 2 above; or4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience which is equivalent to 1 , 2 , or 3 above. Each 100 hours of supervised internship experience assisting a dentist at chairside is equivalent to two (2) months of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year High School diploma or its educational equivalent.Experience as a receptionist or clerk in a dentist's office is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.Department PreferencesQUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB: CERTIFICATION(S)/LICENSE(S) AND EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:1. A four year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by a course of study consisting of at least 600 instructional hours at an approved school for Dental assistants; or2. A four year High School diploma or its educational equivalent, including or supplemented by a course of study consisting of at least 300instructional hours at an approved school for Dental assistants plus six months full-time satisfactory experience as a Dental Assistant performing all of the following duties, developing, and mounting dental radiographs, assisting dentist at chair side, sterilizing dental instruments using autoclave; or3.
