Overview:
The Dental Assistant (Limited Term) assists students and/or faculty during dental procedures. The Dental Assistant (Limited Term) will also assist the students to prepare for dental procedures by setting up instruments, equipment, and materials and ensure that instruments are arranged properly and in accordance with sterile technique(s). This position requires OSHA training and is subject to exposure to blood and other bodily fluids as well as enforcing HIPAA regulations specifically when accessing Protected Health Information (PHI). This is a limited term role.
Responsibilities:
- Assists students and/or faculty during dental procedures.
- Prepares for dental procedures by setting up instruments, equipment, and materials and maintains a clean oral working area prior to during and post exams/procedures.
- Coordinates dental materials inventory with the dispensary on an as needed basis.
- Assists students and/or manipulate diagnostic radiographs on an as needed basis.
- Removes biohazard trash as needed and other duties in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Records pertinent clinic data including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, diagnostic aids, and other in treatment documentation.
- Serves as needed as chair-side assistant to licensed dental practitioners and dental students (pre-doctoral, post graduate, and residents) in examination and treatment of patients in all phases of dentistry.
- Performs lab duties as needed including but not limited to: Taking blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, or other diagnostic aids in treatment documentation.
- Packages tissue and biopsy specimen and sends to pathological laboratory.
- Obtains and replenishes supplies, filing, and setting up operatories for all necessary procedures.
- Assists in regulatory compliance and keep abreast of new developments techniques and materials as they come about and insure adherence to proper infection control protocol.
- Keeps the clinic clean and visually presentable.
- Proactively informs providers and/or management of any issues with equipment instruments or supplies.
- Explains procedures to patients.
- Participates in morning huddle.
- Accepts and handles other job-related tasks and duties as may be assigned.
- Works in Axium on an as needed basis to:
- Track lab work.
- Schedule patients.
- Confirm appointments.
- Triage patients.
- Review, monitor, and print schedules as needed.
- Manage schedule(s) with multiple providers.
- Update patient medical history.
- Schedule and update provider assignments.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
- A college degree (AS) with Dental Assistant experience OR General education degree or high school diploma with three to five (3 - 5) years' dental assistant experience.
- Registered Dental Assistant in NYS a MUST.
- Experience in a dental office required.
Certifications
- CPR Certification Required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Experience with dental practice management computers systems such as AxiUm.
- General Administrative Duties required.

- Ability to operate dental radiographic equipment.

Maximum Salary: USD $59,503.00/Yr. Minimum Salary: USD $47,601.00/Yr.
