Description
To assist in meeting the goals, objectives and mission of the organization by assisting the Dentist in the direct care of patients
Principal Accountabilities:
1. To act as chair side assistant to the dentist, preparing necessary materials and equipment for various dental procedures
2. To assist the dentist by listening and responding to request for materials and equipment during various dental procedures
3. Takes x-rays
4. To participate in in-service workshops, and quality assurance activities as may be required by the department
5. To work closely with the dentist and dental staff in improving productivity and efficiency
6. Take preliminary medical histories and vital signs to be reviewed by the dentist
7. Place and remove rubber dams
8. Take impressions for study casts or diagnostic casts
9. Take impressions for space maintainers, orthodontic appliances and occlusal guards
10. Remove temporary cement (not including temporary fillings)
11. Apply topical anticariogenic agents to the teeth
12. Apply desensitizing agents to the teeth
13. Place and remove temporary separating devices
14. Other duties and responsibilities as requested by the supervisor
Requirements
Knowledge/Education Requirements:
Graduate from an ADA accredited dental assisting and CPR certification, or
High school graduate (or equivalent) and minimum of two full years work experience as a Dental Assistant
Maintain certification including meeting all necessary continuing education requirements
Demonstrate proper judgment and decision-making skills when necessary
Comply with the organizations code of conduct, safety rules and adheres to all company policies
Carry out job responsibilities in an ethical, effective and professional manner
Must be willing and demonstrate the ability to cooperate, work, and communicate with coworkers and supervisors
Must demonstrate computer proficiency with Microsoft Suite and electronic medical record system
Must possess a willingness to accept direction from providers and supervisors; must possess the ability to work well and with compassion in stressful situations; must maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with both patients and co-workers
Must be keenly aware of the importance of confidentiality in all aspects of the position
