Position Summary
The Salvation Army Northern Division Rochester Corps is doing the most good by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. Services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; pastoral care, and connections to community partners.
The Salvation Army Good Samaritan Dental and Medical Clinic provides 1) medical services to those ineligible for health insurance and 2) treatment for uninsured or under-insured patients needing emergency dental care - primarily tooth extractions.
The Dental Clinic Coordinator oversees daily clinic operations and ensures regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include billing support, clinical assistance, staff supervision, coordination of volunteer dental professionals, record maintenance, patient eligibility screening, and patient engagement to promote an efficient and welcoming clinic environment.
$60,000 - $70,000 annually
Full time, 40 hours/week
Essential Functions (approximate time spent)
- Billing Assistance and Reporting (30%): Assist with patient billing and internal reporting.
- Clinical Assistance (20%): Support dental care procedures, including taking radiographs andadministering local anesthetic, if certified.
- Clinic Operations (15%): Ensure effective clinic operations by overseeing staff and volunteer dental professionals' scheduling, supervision, and training.
- Records and Compliance (15%): Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with dental board regulations on practices and equipment. Track volunteer insurance coverage.
- Patient Eligibility and Referrals (5%): Screen patients for medical assistance eligibility and connect them to community resources as needed.
- Community Networking and Outreach (5%):Actively recruit new volunteers, including dentists, hygienists, and assistants. Engage with donors, local businesses, and financial institutions to strengthen partnerships. Collaborate with Division Headquarters on grant opportunities.
- Patient Engagement (5%): Greet patients, assist with check-in, and registration, and handle inquiries to ensure a welcoming environment.
- Patient Scheduling and Administration (5%): Manage appointment scheduling, reminders, and patient flow for efficient operations.
Education and Experience:
- Background in dental assisting (LDA), dental hygiene, healthcare administration, or a related field is required.
- Dental Hygienist (RDH) certificationis highly
- Bachelor's degree in the relevant field
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a dental or healthcare setting, including clinic operations, patient management, or administrative duties.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Certification in radiography required.
- Current Healthcare Provider-level Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required or be willing to obtain. The Salvation Army will assist in obtaining the certification if needed.
- Must pass background checks.

Working Conditions

- Hours are a combination of weekdays and evenings.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds occasionally.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide training, supervision, and direction to Dental Clinic employees and volunteers.
