Description:

Summary:

A full time, exempt position responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding a program of primary, preventive and targeted specialty dental care in a community health center and Patient Centered Medical Home setting, focusing on integration of care and population health methodologies to improve the oral health of our patients and the community. The Dental Director supervises dentists, and other licensed or certified dental practitioners and provides clinical supervision to Dental Assistants, consulting with the CEO.

Essential Responsibilities

* Provides direct patient care: Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.

* Assists in the development and implementation of formal clinic policies and procedures with respect to the provision of dental services that are consistent with health center policies.

* Develops and implements Clinical Guidelines and Protocols that are consistent with evidenced based best practices and assure the provision of high quality care.

* Evaluates the professional staff to ensure performance goals related to production, clinical quality and regulatory compliance are met.

* Works with management team to recruit and retain dental professionals and clinic staff.

* Participates in short- and long-term program planning for the WMCHC Dental program and the overall provision of integrated services.

* Participates in board and management meetings as deemed necessary

* Oversees a quarterly peer review process for the Dental Professional Staff and provides individual reports to the Credentialing Committee and provides summary reports to the Compliance & Quality assurance Committee (CQAC) and the QI team.

* Participates on the Quality Improvement/Practice Transformation Committee to ensure Performance goals for the Dental Department are monitored and successfully met.

* Works with the Management Team to ensure that the Dental Clinic is in regulatory compliance with State and Los Angeles County Department of Health Services as well as Dental Plans and other regulatory bodies or funders.

* Working knowledge of Dentrix and/or other EDR and/or ability to quickly learn to utilize and optimize an Electronic Dental Record as well as help staff implement best practices to document and improve dental care.

* Collaborates with the Director of Operations and other clinic management to ensure smooth operation of clinic and programs including staffing and patient visit ratios.

* Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer, Behavioral Health staff and other clinicians to ensure integration of services across all disciplines.

* Works with the Chief Medical Officer and Nursing Director to develop a population health plan for oral health.

* Works with the CMO, DON, and Director of Operations to address Risk Management concerns, unusual occurrences, and patient grievances.

* Performs other related and /or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

* Graduation from an American Dental Association (ADA) approved school of dentistry (i.e. DDS or DMD)

* Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of California

* Current CPR certification

* DEA registration

* Minimum of 5 years clinical experience

* Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred

* Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required

* Ability to work in a team environment

Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
