Position SummaryThe Salvation Army Northern Division Rochester Corps Dental Hygienist is responsible for working alongside volunteer dental professionals to provide emergency dental care.Part time, 4-8 hours/week, $28 -$30.66/hour20 NE First Ave, Rochester, MN 55906Essential Functions (approximate time spent)
- Deliver local anesthesia and prepare patient for treatment by dentist. (30%)
- Take and record vitals and digital x-rays. (15%)
- Assure that operatories are supplied and ready for dental services (primarily tooth extractions). (10%)
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments according to standard practice and governing policies. (10%)
- Provide patients with preventive and follow-up care instructions and education. (10%)
- Review and update patient charts for accuracy and completeness. (10%)
- Assist dentist in performing procedures as needed & instructed. (10%)
Education and Experience
- Must be a licensed dental hygienist in the state of Minnesota.
- Local anesthetic certification.
- Most possess and maintain CPR certification.
- Must pass background checks.

- Able to work through an interpreter if needed to give and receive information and instructions.
- Ability to provide a caring and supportive presence prior to and during procedures.
- Second language proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
Working Conditions
- Must be able communicate clearly in English.
- Varying work hours that often contain one to two evenings per week.
- Exposure to low level of radiation from x-ray machines
- Bloodborne pathogens exposure risk level is 3 with a reasonable anticipated expose to potentially infection materials.
- Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds.
