Invite a friend Job Description: Job Summary: The incumbent would diagnose and treat problems with patients teeth, gums, and other parts of the mouth. They provide advice and instruction on taking care of teeth, gums and on diet choices that affect oral health. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reviews patients medical record, including allergies, problems, medications, and dental history. Elicits and records information about patients medical history. Examines x-rays of teeth, gums the jaw and nearby areas for problems Remove decay from teeth and fill cavities Repair and/ or remove cracked or fractured teeth. Straighten teeth to correct bite issues Place sealants or whitening agents on teeth Give anesthetics to keep patients from feeling pain during procedures Determines and prescribes medication, dosage, and schedule given the patients condition and allergies. Make models and measurements for dental appliances, such as dentures, to fit patients. Teaches patients about diet, flossing, use of fluoride and other aspects of dental care Refers patients to specialist for consultant services when necessary for patients oral health Documents the patients visit including dental exam, diagnoses, and plan of action. Follows up with patient regarding progress in high risk or emergency cases. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages and consults with Dental Hygienist, EFDAs, and Dental Assistants as needed Trains, mentors, and supervises students and clinical support staff, as appropriate Experience and Skills: Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Dental Degree Current PA Dentist license Current DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Certificate.
