Description of Duties:
The Chemical Engineering (CE) Department is one of eight academic units at SUNY ESF and is home to 10 full-time faculty members and approximately 100 undergraduate and 30 graduate students. The department offers BS degree programs in Bioprocess Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Paper Engineering and Renewable Materials Science along with graduate degrees at the master's and doctoral levels.
Among the faculty are fellows of AIChE and TAPPI and a recent recipient of the NSF's CAREER Award. Recent departmental annual research expenditures are approximately $1M.
The department has significant research programs focused on sustainable materials and processes, with strong research in the areas of lignocellulosics conversion into packaging, paper and biodegradable biomaterials, and bioprocesses. The department faculty also participate in research clusters at ESF in bioeconomy development and have wide ranging collaborations with national and international research groups. Expansion plans for the department include adding new faculty and developing undergraduate and graduate programs in broader chemical engineering fields including semiconductor processing and nanomaterials science. The department also plans to be a key participant in new initiatives in data and quantitative sciences at ESF.
The undergraduate programs are supported by advisory boards such as the Syracuse Pulp and Paper Foundation the Bioprocess Engineering Advisory Board, various other foundations and the private sector which provide support / opportunities for internships, co-ops and permanent jobs for graduates as well as scholarships.
The individual selected for the department chair will be expected to support and grow a culture of excellence in research and education, demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through leadership, research, teaching, and service endeavors. The chair is expected to work in collaboration with key partners at the college and lead the department to higher levels of preeminence in our research enterprise. Strong historical ties to industry and new industrial growth in the area offer opportunities to leverage and enhance academic and research collaborations with neighboring universities such as Onondaga Community College, Syracuse University and SUNY Upstate Medical University.

* Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
* Accomplishments commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment in Chemical Engineering at the rank of full professor.
