The Department of Architecture at the University of Virginia School of Architecture is seeking applications for a Department Manager. The Department Manager will provide key support in the areas of Leadership, Budget Development, Finance Management, Academic and Event Coordination, as well as serve as the primary support for the Department Chair. This department comprises over forty full-time faculty members and more than three hundred undergraduate and graduate students and is also supported by a part-time Administrative Coordinator.
Architecture is the largest of four departments within the school, which also includes Urban and Environmental Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Architectural History. The Department Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department of architecture under the supervision of the department chair. This role also includes supporting the department chair and managing shared resources for Administrative Coordinators across the four departments.

What you will do:
* Distribute and manage the department's workflow and operations. This includes coordinating and setting agendas for biweekly department meetings, managing the calendar and assignment of duties, ensuring tasks are completed on time, and coordinating with school-wide entities such as the Dean's office, Communications Team, and IT.
* Coordinate and manage student workers to aid in departmental tasks
* Act as new initiative project manager.
* Track and assist with the chair's calendar management and scheduling of meetings.
* Set and manage annual events and schedules including department calendar, faculty meetings, curriculum committee meetings, faculty important deadlines, faculty resources management, and faculty searches.
* Develop and lead the implementation of shared resources used to support all academic departments, which may involve engagement with all department chairs and administrative coordinators.
* Partner with Human Resources to provide support with onboarding and offboarding management, Promotion, Tenure, and Reappointment process, and student hiring.
* In coordination with the Chair, lead the development of the department's operational budget, communicate routine budget adjustments and updates.
* Provide financial guidance to faculty, staff, and the department with a full understanding of the university financial structure
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant work experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, demanding and complex environment while remaining flexible and collegial.
* Ability to work well as a team member, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in a support capacity in an academic environment
* Experience developing and managing budgets and ability to interpret and assess regular financial reporting
* Experience with Student Information System (SIS) and/or Adaptive
Anticipated hiring range: $65,000 - $75,000 / annual
This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
