The Department of Africana Studies at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for an Assistant Professor with expertise in sub-Saharan African societies, pending budgetary approval. Areas of specialization may include health, science, and the environment in Africa, African politics/political economy, social movements, media, culture, and society. We are equally interested in candidates who specialize in African women's experiences, African families, and education in Africa. We seek a colleague pursuing research agendas aligned with our concentrations on Migration & Community Transformation, Race and Equity, and Culture and Creative Production. We welcome applications from candidates with PhDs in Africana Studies or other Humanities and social science disciplines. Applicants should have their PhD in hand or expected by August 1, 2025. Responsibilities will include teaching two courses per semester focusing on Africa and on the candidate's expertise. The position start date is Fall 2025.
