As part of these responsibilities, the employee serves as a copy editor and writer for Voice of Prophecy materials for digital and print publication.AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY:Authority delegated by the Public Relations DirectorESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Proofread, copyedit, and revise, as needed, text intended for public-facing VOP materials and resources, including, but not limited to: informational pieces, promotional pieces, advertisements, fundraising letters, emails, webpages, and social media content.
- Ensure text appeals to its intended audience, uplifts the work of the Voice of Prophecy, and reflects the values of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- Ensure text accurately reflects VOP resources, their processes, and what customers can expect. This requires close communication with all other departments to learn their most up-to-date information.
- Work with the Creative department to ensure text is formatted and styled properly in design layouts-and to ensure text and graphics complement each other.
- Ensure text is correctly styled according to conventional American English grammar, punctuation, and to previously established VOP style.
- Assist Editorial Specialist and Public Relations Director in maintaining the VOP style guide-and create smaller, project-specific style guides as needed.
- Write original copy in varied tones and platforms-e.g., for newsletters, social media posts, episode descriptions, promotional pieces, and donor appeals.
- Respond graciously to customer inquiries and comments via social media and email.
- Assist with Public Relations departmental tasks, projects, and events, as needed, e.g., data entry, contacting people, note-taking, etc.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
- Must be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church who believes in and supports its fundamental teachings.
- Must exhibit Christ-like decorum and personal responsibility.
- Education: A bachelor's degree is required, with a preference given to graduates in a writing/editing discipline such as English, public relations, or communications.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience as an editor/writer is preferred.
- Excellent editorial skills-a keen eye for spotting and correcting errors, inconsistencies, and other flaws.
- Excellent writing skills-in both rewriting content and crafting original content (with little need for editorial oversight).
- Successful in working in a deadline-driven atmosphere.
- Detail-oriented-ability to track, remember, and correct small details about resources and processes.
- Experience with following a style guide.
- Demonstrate an eye for good design and engaging images and video, with basic image editing ability.
- Experience with social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube.
- Knowledge of various computer programs and online platforms for completing duties.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, make decisions, and assume responsibility within the essential and specific position functions.
- Ability to competently compose and express ideas and thoughts reflective of the values of the Voice of Prophecy.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to urgent projects of unusual situations.
- Ability to accept feedback in a professional manner and work within a team to accomplish ministry goals.
