Description:

The Human Services Agency (HSA) is seeking Deputy Directors for two departments: Children & Family Services and Community Services. Reporting to the Agency Director, these positions offer seasoned professionals the chance to lead significant departments and contribute to Agency-wide decision-making.

Children & Family Services focuses on child welfare, including prevention, support, and protection for at-risk youth, and fostering permanent family bonds. The Deputy Director here oversees five Division Managers and 386 employees.

Community Services manages public assistance programs such as Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and CalWORKs, including service delivery and client linkage to additional resources. This Deputy Director supervises five Division Managers and 642 employees.

Both roles involve driving departmental goals, managing change, and fostering a collaborative, empowering culture. They provide essential support to the Agency Director, with potential for reassignment based on operational needs.

Qualifications:

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with course work in public administration, psychology, social work or a related field; AND
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible managerial and leadership experience, preferably in human/social services entities; including at least two (2) years of upper management level experience.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Frequent driving using a personal vehicle and travel within the state is required. Worksite reassignments may occur.

    County Employees as Disaster Service Workers: When a disaster strikes of natural or manmade origin, Ventura County employees may be called upon to provide service to the community. At the time of hire, all County employees will be required to sign an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance for Disaster Service Workers and Public Employees (Sections 3102 and 3103, Government Code of California).
