Job Description:
The Deputy Director of Events reports to the Executive Director of Events. The Deputy Director serves as the chief administrative officer and director of operations and advisor to the Executive Director regarding the management, oversight, and direction of the department's operations. The Deputy Director assists the Executive Director in managing and coordinating all meetings and special events for both internal users and external clients and providing support to various departments and groups in organizing and scheduling events held at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Focused on superior customer satisfaction and possessing exceptional business acumen, the Deputy Director provides strategic and tactical guidance throughout event plan development and execution, operations management, and overall event delivery as well as management of operational personnel.
Responsibilities:
* Oversee event management operations for all FIT events while handling priorities and providing guidance and structure to the events team.
* Assist Executive Director in the improvement of client services resulting in increased operational efficiency, effectiveness, and client satisfaction.
* Provide input on various construction and renovation projects, and recommend equipment and furnishing purchases for the operation of the department.
* Direct, coordinate and oversee the activities of employees engaged in providing event coordination including buildings and grounds, media services, IT, lighting, security, and catering.
* Direct operations of major events from start to finish including site visits, pre-production meetings, and all aspects of events when the event takes place.
* Work with other departments in a variety of tasks. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, contractors, and students.
* Foster relationships and maintain repeat business, while prospecting for new events which heighten awareness of FIT and the critical role played by the special events team.
* Inspect facilities to ensure they are being properly maintained for events, report any areas of concern to appropriate parties or departments and ensure appropriate repairs are made.
* Manage special projects as needed, such as submission and review of event related RFPs and assessments, and serve on employee search committees.
* Work with general counsel to develop and update legal agreements and event participation waivers as needed.
* Support the Executive Director and the President's Office with VIP events, projects, and facility and event resource needs.
* Attend event industry conferences, educational workshops and trade shows to keep abreast of latest trends and tips.
* Assist Executive Director in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities of all event related programs and activities.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree required.
* 5+ years of appropriate business experience.

* An accomplished leader who excels at customer service and displays outstanding problem solving skills.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

* Ability to direct, motivate, and inform staff and foster collaboration.
* Exemplary Communication skills with ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format.

Additional Information:
Please note all offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of the background check process.
Salary
$125,000 - $142,000 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Work Schedule
Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The working conditions for this position will be any combination of the office space and/or outdoors. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, frequent standing, frequent bending, constant walking, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
