Serves as the principal assistant to the Chief Nursing Officer and assumes full responsibility and authority in her absence.ResponsibilitiesParticipates in developing and implementing the patient/resident care programs, the mission, vision, values, ethics, philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and standards for Nursing Service.Serves as the Head of the Department of Nursing in the absence of the Chief Nurse Executive. In collaboration with the Chief Nurse Executive, assumes twenty four (24) hour responsibility forthe Nursing Services. In collaboration with the Chief Nurse Executive, assists in the development and implementation of an organizational plan that delineates nursing functions, identifies position required to carry out functional responsibilities, and nursing staffing that insure the maintenance of an adequate and qualified staff. Is available as a resource to provide guidance and direction in problem resolution. Monitors progress of special nursing programs and projects, and makes recommendations and/or takes appropriate action on basis of findings .Collaborates with the medical staff and other hospital departments and promotes interdisciplinary approach to patient care. Represents Nursing at selected medical board and organizational-wide committees.Participates in the Performance Improvement Programs and utilizes findings for the improvement of patient care.Additional ResponsibilitiesThe Deputy Director of Nursing provides operational and clinical support to the Director of Nursing at NYC Health + Hospitals/Carter. Carter's Skilled Nursing Care Hospital (SNF) is a 201-bed facility with highly complex patients. The Deputy Director of Nursing collaborates with the DON in developing, implementing, and managing action plans to address patient care issues. The Deputy Director of Nursing must be a skilled leader able to demonstrate cultural competence in a diverse environment.RequirementsMinimum Qualifications
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3) below:
- Master's Degree in nursing administration, education or an equivalent field and a minimum of six years of satisfactory nursing experience; four of which shall have been in supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity; or
- A baccalaureate degree in nursing and seven years of satisfactory nursing experience, five of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or
- A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Acute care experience with knowledge of ventilator care, IV drips (i.e, diuretics, vasopressors, anticoagulants), telemetry monitoring with the interpretation of EKG rhythms, blood transfusions, ACLS certified
- Understands and applies the technical and procedural aspects of one's job including collaborating with various departments
- Reviews and complies with corporate personnel policies, procedures and city-wide contracts.
- Demonstrates familiarity of CMS, DOH, Joint Commission regulations
- Effectively utilizes appropriate computer applications and programs
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Participates in developing and implementing philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of nursing service and education.
- Demonstrates knowledge acquired through formal learning, professional development, and work experience
- Demonstrates current clinical knowledge of best practices and regulations impacting healthcare facilities
