For 40 years, the Foundation has taken an intersectional, inclusive approach to building a California where all our communities are healthy, safe, and economically secure.POSITION SUMMARYThe Deputy Director, Programs works in partnership with the Chief Strategist, Programs and Foundation staff to shape and implement the Strategic Framework and Vision for Women's Foundation California. In their role, they provide direct oversight and leadership for the nationally acclaimed Dr. Beatriz Maria Solís Policy Institutes (SPI): the State Program, Local Program, and Alum Networks. The Deputy Director provides direct supervision of the Program team staff, offering day-to-day direction & support, feedback, coaching, and mentorship. They will ensure that staff workloads are balanced and resources are used strategically to develop a sustainable team infrastructure and facilitate communication between the Program team and other departments across the organization. The Deputy Director is accountable for co-designing & implementing programs, and assessing SPI learning and training processes to measure benchmarks for desired programmatic outcomes and impact.Essential DutiesTeam & Organizational ManagementManage the Foundation's Program Team by providing direct supervision, guidance, and mentorship of Program staff (remote).Develop and manage consultant agreements including but not limited to: developing scope of work, managing expenses, and serving as a liaison between consultants working with the program team and WFC.Create opportunities for team members' leadership and professional development and ensure that Program team members are supported, valued, appreciated, and motivated to produce high-quality work.Collaborate with the Director of People & Experience to attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, ensuring their development in professional competencies, level of responsibility, program priorities, and performance.Oversee Program team meetings and collaboration & communicate across departments on a regular basis.Program Implementation, Leadership & OversightProvide leadership, management, and oversight for all aspects of the Foundation's programmatic efforts including program development and implementation of SPI State, Local, and Alum.Serve as a thought partner to Program Managers on curriculum for the SPI programs.Lead the Program team in building their annual budget with ongoing collaboration with the Finance team to review budget to actuals to ensure that program expenses and expenditures stay within the allocated budget.Support in stewarding strategic partnerships and relationships that help ensure the success of SPI fellows and alums, including relationships with public officials and their staff, community leaders, and key partners.Cultivate new relationships and networks to broaden the awareness and deepen the impact of the Foundation's programmatic work.Identify priorities, gaps, and trends in program areas and make recommendations accordingly to the Chief Strategist, Programs.Responsible for the development of systems and processes to document the progress, successes, and challenges of programs.Lead annual programs assessments and evaluations.Communicate across departments as well as with funders, donors, and other WFC audiences on programmatic progress and outcomes.Engage in other activities as needed or assigned to successfully move the Foundation's mission forward.QualificationsThe successful candidate for the position will be a thoughtful leader who brings relevant life experience as well as deep demonstrated experience in organizational development, people management, professional development, and team-building; program planning, development, and evaluation; training and facilitation; internal and external relationship building; and budget development and oversight.Required ExperienceMinimum 8-10 years of experience supervising multiple staff, with a solid working understanding of leading effective and motivated teams, evaluating staff, and addressing performance issues.Minimum 8-10 years of experience with progressively more responsibility planning and managing multiple mission-driven programs within a nonprofit setting.Demonstrated experience implementing and overseeing policy, training, and grant-making programs that successfully engage diverse communities; strong understanding of best practices related to cultural competence of gender, racial, and economic justice issues.Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills; ability to innovate, with capacity to create or seize opportunities to improve program effectiveness and organizational outcomes.Experience developing and/or overseeing curriculum for training programs.Advanced project management experience and expertise with effective project management practices.Evidenced commitment to an interdepartmental, interdisciplinary team approach to work; strong collaboration and conflict resolution skills.Desired ExperienceDemonstrated understanding of state and/or local public policy processes and utilizing advocacy and community organizing strategies for policy change.Demonstrated history of innovative program design and implementation experience supporting the creation of funding proposals and budgets.Passion for and knowledge of issues and challenges faced by cis and trans women, gender-variant, genderqueer, and non-binary individuals; and trans men.Experience in large group facilitation, adult learning, and experiential training programs.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence and comfort with public speaking in front of a variety of audiences.Excellent computer and technology skills including proficiency with MS Office suite, Google G-Suite products, and familiarity with using databases and online project management tools;
