The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) are seeking a Deputy Executive Director of Housing and Energy. This executive-level position is key to the overall success of both organizations. MTC is the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) and regional transportation planning agency (RTPA) for the San Francisco Bay Area. The Deputy Executive Director is a newly created position and oversees two direct reports, a staff of approximately 20, and an approximate annual budget of $120 million. Both programs are poised for significant growth in the coming years. This pivotal role requires innovative strategies to navigate the intersecting realms of housing and energy, ensuring that programs like Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) and Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) lead the way in tackling these critical issues. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be a creative, innovative, organized, and diplomatic leader with excellent problem-solving skills. They will be adept at building relationships and trust, and possess a strong understanding of complex funding sources such as state and federal grant awards and resilience funding, California's climate goals, housing finance and policy, and the unique barriers to access in the Bay Area and beyond. Familiarity with regional housing and energy partners is highly desired. The ideal candidate will discuss issues facing the Bay Area through a lens of social justice, equity, inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and innovation. Prior experience in leading housing solutions, sustainability programs, energy efficiency, financing, or community development efforts in the public sector is desired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • EXPERIENCE: Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience effectively leading and managing a division or department doing related work. Experience should include a minimum of four (4) years senior management experience in agency administration, operations, management, or similar position; managing administrative support services; budget development, analysis and management; business or public administration; presenting to boards, commissions and/or committees, responding to public inquiries and requests, reporting to the Chief Deputy Executive Director; executive management; and a demonstrated ability to build successful coalitions to advance program goals and outcomes.

Desired Qualifications:

  • EDUCATION: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • EXPERIENCE: In critical areas such as public financing, sustainability, affordable housing, energy efficiency, or community development, with an emphasis on policy, stakeholder engagement, funding and regulatory landscape, and program management.
  • COALITION BUILDING: Previous experience building coalitions with other agencies including state and local governments, nonprofits, and academic partners to achieve common goals.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

An annual salary of $269,500 – $322,089 DOE/DOQ, PLUS a generous benefits package.
