Also oversees all ISO rating inspections, documentation, and paperwork. Employee is supervised by the Fire Marshal. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspects buildings and structures to identify potential fire hazards.
- Ensures buildings are equipped with fire control equipment including fire extinguishers.
- Locates fire code violations.
- Recommends actions to bring properties into compliance.
- Checks for accumulations of combustible material, electrical wiring problems, and inadequate or non-functional fire exits.
- Performs tests on fire protection systems.
- Ensures buildings are in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
- Inspects properties that store, handle, and use hazardous materials to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.
- Stays abreast of current fire safety codes and firefighting procedures.
- Evaluates evacuation procedures.
- Presents and explains fire code requirements and fire prevention information to engineers and construction workers.
- Issues and updates permits.
- Oversees ISO rating inspections, documentation, and paperwork.
- Conducts pre-fire plans.
- Schedules and conducts fire safety programs for all ages.
- Assists with departmental training program.
- Promotes fire safety among the department, employees, and citizens.
- Maintains appropriate computer databases and equipment.
- Establishes and maintains a filing system.
- Assists with the collection of Fire Inspection and permit fees.
- Participates in public education programs.
- Participates in the work of the Fire Investigation Unit and responds to emergency incidents.
- Completes fire investigation reports, determines origin and cause of fires, collects and preserves evidence, and provides testimony in legal proceedings.
- Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEGraduation from high school; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OR REQUIREMENTSPossession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.Possession of a Fire Fighter 1 & 2 certification.Possession of or ability to obtain within 6 months a Fire Inspector Level 1 certificationPossession of or ability to obtain a Level 2 certification.Possession of or ability to obtain within two years a Level 3 certification.Possession of or ability to obtain EMT-Basic certification.Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain yearly CPR certifications.Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class B License.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
